can't create a character

i have a freind that just installed the game and updated now he is at the play button screen and there's nothing there where he can create a character and there's no play button any ideas. I'vce just had a brain fart and can't remember what i did thanks in advance

Right below that big red <b><span style="color: #ff0000">PLAY</span></b> button is a drop-down menu, it should give the option of Select Character.  Do that and you will be able to create a new one.  <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Is there a small Grey colored Cancel right under the big red button?  What happens if they press that? What OS are they running?

<span style="font-family: book antiqua,palatino">You may have a software issue, granted there was one suggestion that you may be needing to wait for downloads, if this should be the case, just try to be patient while the updates.....well update. After this the update button should turn into a red play button. Once this has happened then you will be guided  through character creation. If none of this happens I would suggest re-installing the software, to see if this makes any difference, if this doesn't work then I would direct you to technical support with your question, as they will be the keepers of the keys, to such mysteries.</span>

Thanks for all the help it ended up being that his video card was not good enough for the game and would not continue on with the updates lol...
