Hi everyone, I'm a new player to eq2 and i thought the monk class would be great to just have a little fun with me and my friends, But i do enjoy solo'ing as well.

My question is: As a solo monk what should i aim to do with my character skill wise, Such as selecting master abilities, and just overall gear desisions. i'm level 17 right now and i'm not too sure what i should be looking for gear wise, my question includes weapons too

Thank you in advance!

Alexsis, level 17 woodelf monk

Right now the monk class is at a bit of a standstill at higher levels.. But at lower levels you should find some enjoyment. For AA lines - put 4 4 8 points into WIS / INT / STA This increases your overall performance, and increases your DPS.. Your last point (49/50) should be in STR.

For masters, I would always choose the ones that do the MOST damage. Keep in mind, this doesn't mean your combat spells.. IE: Wisdom of Zephyl increases your attack speed - increasing your DPS - so choose that master for sure. IE: Shocking hand adds extra damage for every melee hit - that is more DPS - so chosoe that as your master.

And so on. In terms of gear.. Monks will need two sets of gears.

Your defensive gear: which boosts your mitgation, AGI + resists + AGI/Resists adornments. (AGI and resists being the big part as we are called avoidance tanks - but seemingly dont even protray that role compared to a zerker /rant off) also any imbued procs should be healing.. Only healing as this helps your tankability.

Offensive gear : increasing STR with STR adornments + any imbued offensive procs

Remember to always stack your food - IE: Defensive mode - AGI/STA drink, AGI food. Offensive mode: Str/Int drink, STR food. likewise for potions. I would try to get your 3 haste buffs mastered for offensive mode.. And get your one defensive buff mastered too. (everburning fire is a master II spell you can get mastered via leveling up)

Other than that, all you can do is pray that you have a good healer when tanking and in offensive mode, as monks have to [Removed for Content] themselves either way (offensive / defensive) in order to provide the decent DPS or tankability. - Taiken

This might sound like stupid question but when you say 4 4 8 points into WIS / INT / STA do you mean 4 points into WIS, 4 into INT and 8 into STA or do you mean 4 points in the two first skills in ach tree and 8 points into the third skill on the tree (Is that even possible? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm a newbie and dont know much about the AA lines and points yet)

You can spend a totall of 50AA Points in the "Brawler" Skilltree, so he means 4 points in the two first skills and 8 points into the third skill on each of the 3 Lines.

A good Starter Setup would be STR Line 4-4-8 (Relentless Punches), wich requires you to have no weapons equiped, but you will double attack (96%) wich makes up for the loss of dualwielding. This is the best DPS setup till you have more points to spend, also you can save some coin early on cause you don't need to buy any weapons.

Okey, So a total of 16 points into each of the three WIS, INT and STA and the rest into STR? I think I got it now, Thanks^^

err no, once you have WIS 4-4-8, STA 4-4-8 and INT 4-4-8 there is only 1 AA point left to spend (from 50AA Points in totall).

STR 4-4-8 i just good to start with, till your geared up, as soon as you have more points you can switch to the Spec above.

I have something to add, well ask.. You suggest 4 4 8 points into WIS / INT / STA for AAs, and further go on to say how important AGI is yet you put no AA into that tree. Sorry if that seems daft, I am a new player.

At an early stage in your monk career, definatly go 4-4-8 in your Strength line. After that, you should understand a bit more about your class and which direction you want to go in for AA's. No other AA line though gives you the best bang for your buck then the 4-4-8 str set up unless you have fabled weapons (or some of the few OMG legendary ones) for dps. You can find Mastercrafted armor rather cheap compaired to the early days. It works good enough vs. regular mobs but shy away from anything that casts because it's resists are BLEH! Save up your money, buy some salesman crates ASAP and start selling all the "treasured" on up gear you loot for a fair price. The transmuters eat that stuff up and it's a good steady income for a solo dude. Harvest all the shinies you can find in the low lvl zones and browse the broker to find out which are worth selling and which are a waste of space. (I carry bank boxes on my high str characters just for the extra storage). Finding a source of income in the game is probably the toughest job for most of us. Worry more about keeping gold in your pocket then anything at first.... Quests found in the EOF expansion give some of the best gear and aa points in the game so do as many of those as you can. (As long as they aren't grey)
