Just as the title says, is it even remotely possible for a crafting level to be higher than your regular level, assuming that you dont have a ton of plat from a higher level toon? I am an 18 Paladin who is a level 20 armorer. I now need steel and carbonite. Well, I certainly cant afford to buy steel on the broker with it going for 48 gold per cluster. I cant HARVEST it because of the aggro mobs around it. SO, is it possible to have a crafter that is higher than your toon's level? Many people say it's wise, so you can keep yourself in armor. I'm trying and just dont see any possible way to do it.

Yes, it is possible to be a 70 crafter and a T1 toon. It takes longer to harvest because there are limited zone areas without aggro to harvest at but they exist for all tiers. As I said, it will take longer because you cant harvest every node in the area, only the few that pop without mobs near them and those areas tend to be farmed heavily.

Well, I know that the game will LET you, but where, for example, could I go to harvest steel without getting killed? TS was suggested by a guildie, but lvl 30 aggro mobs kinda ruin it for me. It wasnt difficult, it was IMPOSSBILE (still is) for me to harvest mats while this lvl.

Definitely. My first crafter to 70 was a 35 adventurer at the time. The broker was actually broken when Kingdom of Sky released and the level cap was raised to 70, and I still managed to get a number of server firsts even though I was spending that time out harvesting for myself. There is no reason you can't harvest everything you need to get from crafting level 1 to 70, without ever going over level 10 adventurer. Sure, it's a bit dangerous if you're low level, and you'll need to use your intelligence and powers of observation to pick out the safer areas, but it's totally doable. Crafters aren't dependent on adventurers for their harvesting. Nowdays, my first crafter is rich and lazy so she does tend to pick up harvests from the broker unless they're extortionately priced, but it's never necessary. For the level of resources you're looking for, I suggest the centaur area just north of Coldwind Point griffon tower, and the grassy area near South East griffon station, both in Thundering Steppes. But that's just my personal favorite, I'm sure others have other favorite locations!
At least two crafters on these boards have made tests where they took a character and leveled it to lvl 70 tradeskiller and under lvl 10 adventurer. I think one of them harvested all his mats himself, I don't remember if the other harvested or bought from the broker. If my memory is correct it was Leiela and Thicket Tundrabog (please forgive me for any misspellings of these names). So it is indeed possible, but perhaps not the easiest way

I never kill centaurs so they never bother any of my gals.

to harvest t-3 try the Coldwind Station (sp) hill. Zero agro unless centaurs hate you.

And if you are level 18, centaur aggro is unlikely.Just dont wander to the other side of the river bed into gnoll terriroty and you are fine in harvesting in the centaur camp. There is 0 aggro there. The crater areas by SE tower have wandering lions and skeletons, both of which can be avoided if you pay attention. There is also a small part of the riverbed by Thundermist village which is good for ore and stones. There are wandering skeletons through that area so you have to pay attention but it can be done. Usually you can get 4-5 nodes without getting into the aggro zone of the skellies. If you have invis and are quick on your feet you can sneak up on nodes a little farther in towards a valley area that has a lot of wood and dens as well.

Truly, learning to harvest in EQ2 is a game in itself. It can be all about the exploring and learning if you want it to be (this requires patience. If your goal is to grind to 70 as fast as possible, this play style is not for you). I have a 70 provisioner that is a very low level adventurer, 10 or 11 I think. She harvested all her own raws to level (which was challenging in the T7 zones given the sheer number needed to get through that level). Was funny though when you see all these high level types wondering what you are doing at the spires. They love to remind you are you heading into a 56+ zone...LOL

Whats even more interesting is when you tell them what you are doing and they are XP'ing in the areas and will let you tag along for safety. There are some fun people in the game that just want to see you do it. Many people think it cant be done so to actually see someone do it, blows them away.

The instance at the top of Zarvonn's tower in the Commonlands is one of my favorite T3 harvest spots. There is aggro leading up to the zone in but you can either train them up or have a guildie clear the way for you. Once you are in there will be a few skellies that aggro but those are easily run off and then the zone is yours, I've never killed these guys so not sure if there will be a lockout if you do so. At level 18 I don't see any problems getting up and through the tower. Rinse and repeat.

It gets even more fun when you harvest T7 in bonemire on your level 16 troub. I leveled my Alchymist to 70 before he was over 20 in adventure level. While I did not harvest all of my own raws, I had my harvesting skills at 350/350 when I was at level 70.

There is an area in each of the levels that allows you to harvest raws with reasonable safety, it may take some time waiting for respawn, and a few deaths, but it can be done.

You just have to pay attention to what you are doing and be ready with the "sprint" button.

As for having a crafter level higher than your adventure level, I recommend it. That way your crafter can make things your adventurer can really use.

The toughest part about TS is doing the egg quest so you can ride the Griffons. If you can manage that you'll have little trouble with the Southeast Tower area. I've done this with level 10 characters a few times and only once, after I harvested the egg, did I have a lion give me an express ticket to the Thundermist Village station. Edited to add: Naked Harvesting FTW.
