View Full Version : Bypass downloading at launch?

Hello there! I haven't played the game for a little over a year, but I decided to get back into it. I still have the original disk that I installed from again (since my EoF disk was defective that I bought and couldn't find another one to buy that wasn't defective), but I have at least a 24 hour download to get the updates! I have tried to do the trick where you go to the Everquest 2 folder and click on the Everquest2 client icon to go directly to the game. However, when I do that, the login thing pops up written in jibberish and I can't even enter anything in the boxes that are available, and none of them are labeled- though I have figured out that the bottom button on the right is the cancel button or whatever. Is there anything that I can do to bypass the downloading other than that? I have also tried to change the settings in the launchpad to "download while playing game", but that didn't help anything at all. Am I pretty much stuck until the whole thing downloads?

You will need to download all of the "necessary" patches before the game will run now, since you are installing from the original disks. The "download while playing" option is designed for when you have the latest patches but want to download some of the optional content. Like speech or fauna and flora. To make this process faster you could go into the option on the patches and uncheck all the additional content... let the patcher do it's thing, once it says play you could do back into those options set them all to download while you play and then hopefully the next time to log in you can also enjoy the speech and darklightwood/neriak etc etc If you have access to a friends computer that is running the latest stuff you could head round to their place, copy all the files and then head back to your pc and overwrite... then run the patcher again just to make sure. you can only load up directly into the game once you have patched to the latest level.

Aaah, thank you very much for the quick reply. I can only find the preferences option that lets me select additional content and audio content, that's the one that you're talking about right? Looks like I need to either let it download after that or try to find a new disk that hopefully has about everything else already on it!

Sorry at work atm so just doing it off memory.. but sounds like we're talking about the same "additional content" window.. turn all that off. Then at least you wont have to wait for the extra bells and whistles to download before you can actually log in and have a fix before you log in tho... you can set that stuff to download while you play. Yup, only choice if you have orinional disks only is to let it patch. copy from another pc that is currently fully patched will work dig up your DoF or EoF disks will at least make the patching process faster kick it off before you go to work if you have to stick with what cha got now imo

[Removed for Content], I got a new disk with the latest expansion pack and it's STILL going to be a 8+ hour download! How can you get a really new disk and still need to download 8+ hours of downloads? If it wasn't so late at night, I'd just go get a different mmorpg.

There has been a *ton* of content added/changed since the EoF discs were pressed. Even the little play the fae trial took me about 31 hours to download everything. It would be kinda neat to see SoE have an external file/archive you could download so you didn't have to wait through thier slow patcher... and so some mirrors could have it. Kinda like how you can get the WoW updates from all over the place, and Mythic did that a few times for DAoC.
