View Full Version : value of lower tier-2 drinks over tier-1 white tea

I did a search on White Tea and found only 2 hits, both in a 41-page thread.

My question is this: why would somebody drink Orange Juice if they could drink White Tea instead?

Both increase power regeneration per tick by 15.

Both have high satiation.

White Tea lasts for 5 hours and 3 minutes. Orange Juice lasts for 3 hours and 22 minutes.

White Tea is cheaper to make since it uses Walnut kindling versus Mulberry kindling.

So White Tea is cheaper to make and lasts approximately 50% longer than Orange Juice.

White Tea is a tier-1 item. Orange Juice is a tier-2 item.

Similarly, why drink Creamed Antonican Coffee instead of White Tea?

Or Black Tea instead of White Tea?

Or Antonican Coffee instead of White Tea?

All of those Tier-2 drinks appear to have the same benefit as Tier-1 White Tea, but do not last as long as White Tea and are more expensive to make.

One reason to drink them over White Tea is if White Tea is more expensive on the broker. But if you can make both of them, why ever bother to drink any of them instead of White Tea?

The only reason I can think of is if you do not have any White Tea leaves. Although as a Tier 1 item, White Tea leaves are probably relatively easy to obtain.

This has confused me for perhaps 2 months. I finally decided to ask the question after creating 1 isolated evil character who is giving very serious thought to becoming a Provisioner. He is already a Craftsman.

The only possibility that seems to make sense to me is if a Tier-2 character no longer receives the power regeneration benefit of a Tier-1 item (i.e., if Tier-1 food and drink "grey out" after a character reaches Tier-2).

Does that happen?

Thanks for any thoughts on this. Perhaps this question has already been addressed many times and I simply failed to locate those posts by restricting my search to "White Tea". Sorry if that is the case.

P.S.

A few days ago I was talking to somebody in game and he was telling me how impressive Antonican Coffee is. This only confused me more. I could not bring myself to ask why he was not drinking White Tea instead.

Near or at adventure level 10 tier 2 drink should provide greater power regeneration. I will have to check how much.

Edit: Okay here are the basic regeneration rates of drinks up to tier 5.

Tier 1 15 per tick

Tier 2 30 per tick

Tier 3 45 per tick

Tier 4 60 per tick

Tier 5 75 per tick

The regen benefit of food and drink is capped by your adventure level. You can use higher level food and drink but you won't get the full benefit. Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLere Vaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

There is also a display glitch.. foods will only display stats for your level. You could look at level 70 food and still see 15 regen.

It's annoying on my Provie, level 35 provisioner, 22 adventure, as I can't look at the foods I make and know what the stats really are. Minor annoyance, but still.

Or maybe they differ among servers?

I am confused where the rate of 30 per tick comes from for Black Tea (or Antonican Coffee or Orange Juice).

I'll make some Black Tea and White Tea and see if the rates on the actual products are 15 for White and 30 for Black.

How is a provisioner supposed to know the true value of his product relative to the consumer if the stats only reflect the value of people his same level?

I'll have to think about it!

Either way, thanks for that heads up. It explains a lot!

P.S.

Could somebody post the stats by tier for INT, WIS, STR, STA, and AGI bonuses?

Or maybe just post a source where I can find that information?

Thanks again for helping to clear this up in my head.

What is the adventure level for that crafter? If it is lower level, then the higher level food/drinks will scale to your level. So when you look all your food/drinks will be scaled to whatever level you are. If you can only drink tier2 drinks then you will see tier2 stats on it whether it is a tier2 or a tier 7 drink.

Not to me, a level 8 character making that drink.

As already stated food and drink scale down to your level, so once past level 10 T2 then it has its benefits. As for scarcity there are a couple of reason, one there really isn't any benefit for a provie to make T1 foods. Because of the way TS training is set up, we stop making T1 and move on to T2 after we have crafted our first 12 items or so and T1 xp is considerably lower. Second anyone that has reached lvl 9 artisan can make all theT1 foods. Third the starter foods you get, usually last close to tier T2 anyway, so the market for T1 is very small.

Several times actually, plus i think someone provided a link. Lvl 50 food has a reg of 75 and if it has stat bonus it is 7.8. If you are lvl 9, or lower you won't get any stat bonuses and the reg is much lower.

I see no link in this thread. But thank you for the information on bonuses for a level 50 drink.

Okay. I see a link now. Yes, we have been typing at the same time. Thank you for that link! I'll check it out!

P.S.

I've not yet located a table with stat bonuses by tier except for the power regeneration rate provided above.

However, I know that Sunfish Casserole has a bonus of 1.7 for a tier 1 character.

If a level 50 food / drink does have a stat bonus of 7.8 for a level 50 character, that suggests (assuming a linear slope of 1.5 rounded down from 1.525):

the following table for INT, WIS, etc.:

tier 1: 1.7

tier 2: 3.2

tier 3: 4.7

tier 4: 6.2

tier 5: 7.8

tier 6: 9.2

tier 7: 10.7

I believe I was told at some point in the past that duration of a food or drink is constant... that a 2 hour food is always a 2 hour food regardless of the level of the character that consumes it.

I assume that satiation is also constant across tiers.

So regeneration rate and stat bonuses, such as INT, WIS etc, are the only things that scale across tiers?

I imagine so.

Regardless, I think I now know enough to appreciate the value of a given food or drink item to a given consumer. Thank you to everybody for clearing this up in my mind.

One more thing to keep in mind. Food and drink now scales down when you mentor someone lower than you. Well it is suppose to scale down when mentoring then scale back to the original level when you stop mentoring. The feature is currently bugged. Sometime the food and drink will scale down and sometimes it will not. Sometimes once you mentor and the food and drinks scales down, it never scales back up when you unmentor.
