You have to take into consideration the year that footage was shown. It was not feasible for most desktop pc's. Heck, some people still have trouble running the game as it is because it is so graphically intense. They needed to make it accessible to as many people as possible while keeping the quality up. There was even a point where Ingrid (I believe that's the name of the high elf from the old initial quest) had long hair. Long hair destroyed the frame rates. Half of the character and armor textures wouldn't make sense for loadtimes, etc... and as it is, we can hardly have many high quality characters on screen at a time.

Looks better now tbh. Those spell effects are naff and the armour just looks too "barbie doll" IMO.

That human female Pally armor is simply magnificent, and extremely SEXY! We need more of that stuff in-game today. Most people should be able to handle those new textures and whatnot by now. If not, it just might be time to upgrade!

What good would a metal swimsuit do against a horde of orcs? Nothing. Paladin Bits for all!

What I found more interesting was what the guy was saying. Letting us be able to customise our looks and all that. A shame that way of thinking died and hasn't been rezzed.

If you follow what the audio was saying about the armor is that they could create one set of armor that fits all humanoids. That is not what they have now where they have to create unique armor for each race. The one size scales to all concept is what they are doing with the skeletal revamp. What you are seeing in this footage may actually be what the models will look like after the skeletal revamp. This means it is not really a revamp at all but a re-introduction of a graphical system they origionally intended to put in the game.

If you thought that was good you should see the promo video for EQ2. Practically none of which is accurate or appeared in the game. Making Freeport look like an armed camp with marching company's trudging round and a ton more dynamic things happening in cities...link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NngkljDiv0E

Was the same with DoF promo. Making Maj Dul look like a living, breathing town instead of just another overland zone with mobs dotted about doing the usual "March forward 20 ft, turn between 100 and 180 degrees, march forward 20ft...etc).

I would view RoK with exactly the same level of "yeah right" as well.

It's pretty obvious that Freeport had to be changed so that it would be playable with existing computers and graphics cards. If it had that many NPCs you would be seeing a slide show in West Freeport on even a top of the line computer in 2004. As for the E3 demo of the alpha character models and armor-- it's been stated many times that those models were built to demo the graphics engine but they were not built in a way that is usable in the current engine. We're just going to have to wait for the skeletal revamp that incorporates unified body meshes and body mesh deformations. Then it will be more feasible for the art department to fit clothes and armor models to all the races quickly. Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLere Vaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

The marching crews in freeport are the main difference but a hell of a lot of the video looks totally familiar, in fact some stuff is much improved.

The female paladin armor, while it may not be practical, shows vastly more creativity than the armors we get now, and *gasp* it's asymmetrical!

Oh would be great to get more armors like the one from female paladin! Realistic or not armors we have are very dull :/ And fix shadows!

The "features" touted in the video are almost all non-existent. People cried blue murder when Valve revealed they faked most of their demo videos but overselling of features they couldnt dream of actually implementing is dubious marketing to say the least.

Just approach these "demo's" with large helpings of skepticism and you should arrive at what the end product will actually feature.

oh nice! even the skellies had nice armor! I can understand that it would of been too much for the putors back then, but why on earth did they change the appearance of the human female? They could of simplified the appearance not totally morph her into what we see today. Or do human females HAVE to be ugly to avoid my computer from crashing?
this is only the one thousandth thread about this video, good to see it, i learned so much !

I dont get it why couldnt they have kept the armor scaleing engine back from 2002 rather then this 2 year or longer venture for them to be remakeing it for us? If it was a feature way back in 2002 why wasnt it kept when the game released in 2004 sounds like they really shot there self in the foot there. Sure computers couldnt run it the way it was shown back then but thats no reason to change everything. They shoulda had just Alot more graphics cusomiztoin tools as well an autodecet so it would run smoothly on your system and as people upgraded they could get more and more features out of the engine. Like maybe haveing a bumpmaping off, low, medium, high. Cuz the quality of the armor and the faces on the humans is MUCH MUCH more realistic looking then what we have now. I really hope the skeletal revamp gives us what we saw in thoes 2002 videos. Its 5 years later I for one am hopeing on finaly geting what i saw and wanted 5 years ago.

Ah yes I remember her. The EQ2 poster girl pre beta. She didnt make it in though and nether did her armor as we all can see. What I want to know is who made the early graphic models like that and did they stay on the dev team, if not how long did they actually stay on the team.
