View Full Version : How about a do again button for city writs?

As I have been trying to grind out faction with Freeport Militia, Seafury Buccaneers, etc. I came to the realization that I spend most of my time online not doing these writs but traveling back and forth to get new ones. At 150 status for each writ, I calculated to get status to 40K one would need 267 writs done per faction, probably more since I think the earlier writs don't give this much status. That's 267 trips to the place where you kill spiders, baslisks, whatever, and 266 trips back (which is shortened when the 'call' is up, but a lot of times I get the writ done well before that), since when you finally get the 40K status you wouldn't need to return to that particular place for another one, unless you just really like doing writs for your guild or for status to buy things. Sometimes you can accomplish more than one writ at a time by doing one for say, Militia and Dismal Rage in one place, but there's always a great deal of travel. Now, eventually one would have to come back to town at some point to put things on the broker, go to the bank, etc. so I don't think this is a mechanic to keep the player coming back to home base. Rather I think this is an intrinsic time sink that really doesn't make sense. If the Freeport Militia wants my character to go gather spider silk in Bone Mire or Kill the enemy at another location and they give me a writ to say gather 10 or kill 20, then they should be even more thrilled if I do more than that. This is why I'm suggesting that on the 'accept' box of the city quest, when the quest is completed, it give the player a second option of repeating the writ without returning to the headquarters of whatever faction assigned it. Just put a button on there that says, 'Do more for the city!' or something. Maybe when the writ gets too easy the quest would drop from the quest list then? I think this would cut down on some of the tedium of doing writs without making us do less of them, just cut down on the travel time. Also, I think it would be nice to see some different items from the city merchants in Neriak. I haven't seen anything available from them that I can't get in Freeport and considering they've been cut off from the rest of the world for several hundred years this makes no sense at all.

This is a stupendous idea. Which means it will never be implemented, because SOE has frequent allergic reactions to logic and player wishes. I can see the current system as perhaps being a means to control the speed at which a guild grows...but I am having trouble figuring out WHY there would be such an inherently inhibiting mechanic in place. Maybe it would mean a huge amount of people competing for the same resources (mobs, etc) at the same time if your idea were to be implemented, but that is the only drawback I can see to it. Otherwise, this is one of those ideas that needs to be implemented as swiftly as possible - and I doubt it would take much effort to do it. I hope I'm wrong, and that ideas such as this are made available as quickly as possible.

And how about Writs that are endless...

AKA A Quest that says kill Goblins in Runnyeye

Then you start killing goblins and it keeps a counter of how many you killed, then you go turn them in at X amount of status points per goblin killed.

oh well, i don´t like to travel too. hm... killing mobs for FP hm... wouldn´t be that smart (even tho i would like it^^). if those changes where made i see two things coming up: 1. mobs that where camped for years (as they grind up guild+faction) 2. bots that where just made for this o_O well a instanced thing for a grp of guildmates or some of them could be sweet (i know there are raid writs out). but anyhow, i dont like travling either and i know i spend more time for traveling then doing the quests ;/ but it´s more honor to get the titel that way anyhow ( i mean it´s a hard titel not a done in 5 days) yours, Zergosch

I don't think it's something that should be accomplished in five days either, however lessening the travel would be nice. Even just allowing writs to be repeated a couple of times before one had to go back would be nice. I know some of them happen inside of dungeons where it might be nice to do two of a certain writ on a trip rather than just one. There could also be higher levels of faction made available. Writs have been in the game, along with the various rewards for a very long time and I'm surprised that there hasn't been more items added to the merchants and a higher teir of faction made available.
