View Full Version : Good duo for two newbies to play together

I started playing EQ2 about 2 weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it. A friend of mine is going to subscribe as well. WoW was his first MMORPG and we played together quite a bit as a warrior/priest duo.

My question is what would be a good duo to play together in EQ2? He prefers tank type classes and I prefer support so a warrior healer combination would make sense however we would also like to be able to solo if one of us isn't online. Not sharing the same armor class (ie both heavy armor) would be plus.

Any thoughts?

Furies have the most damage I feel of all the healers. They work well with Berzerkers but I'd pick a bruiser or a monk for cheap Mastercrafted gear. Heavies can be expensive to gear up.

I've always loved the mystic/berserker combo myself. (chain/plate)

Leveling up there was little heroic or lower content we couldn't manage to handle. And as you rack up the achievement points both classes just get better and better together.

Just about any duo can do quite well in EQ2 though, so don't be afraid of trying out some different stuff.

A couple I know duo frequently as a fury and illusionist.

I 2 box a bruiser/templar

bruiser does nice damage and gets hit little, plus if you loose aggro the templar can take a few hits wearing plate, the templar has nice hp buffs and excellent heals when needed

plus if you are gonna die the bruiser can FD a revive the templar and start over.

you are lacking any form of invis or speed buffs with this setup, but invis totems work well also

a bruiser/warden would be a good combo also especially with the wardens speed buff and evac

Necro/Necro or Necro/Defiler or Necro/Warlock or Necro/Conjurer are all really great duos I've done with my Necro.

For the classic tank/healer duo I've duo'd Berzerker/Fury to 52 so far and love it.

Naturally any tank class is going to be heavily gear dependant, so get the best you can buy or steal. About the only thing I miss with this combo is the lack of evacs/teleports. Templars aren't exactly the optimal healers for Bruisers with their low mitigation / high avoidance, but it's absolutely playable.
My girlfriend and I are playing a bruiser/fury combo, and it seems to be working pretty nicely, though obviously we're still newbies.

most tank/healer combos work well, except the cleric/brawlers, and templar/guardian. the brawler one is bad because of the way reactive heals work, and templar guarian just takes to [Removed for Content] long to kill anything.

I duo quite often with my close friends. I agree with the fury/illusionist combo, but I duo mostly with my fury and my friend on his bruiser. Talk about kicking some [Removed for Content]!

But I have come to learn through levelling my new alt (assassin) and convincing my friend to play a fury (hehe) that that as well is a wonderful duo team. Assassins can take the blows, deal a lot of damage, and furies can either nuke or heal depending on how difficult the enemy.

I would say take SK or Berserker as Tank, and a druid as healer .. Fury has better damage than a Warden, but warden is the better healer and doesn't burn his mana like fury. Inqui is also not bad .. but i would prefer a Druid because of the utility. Both can use the Druid-Portals starting with 25 .. both have runspeed buffs, the warden however can push higher trough Achievements. Fury gets groupinvis .. Warden Evac on later levels.

I duo a Zerker/Warden Arasai Team at the moment, and i really love to have 60% speed with Journeyman boots, however i miss the invis of the fury a little bit

Brigand/Swashy and a Warden/Fury.

Have the rogue do a tank build (high mit armor, STA line for AA).

This will give you great survivability, really nice dps, the ability to track down mobs that you need to locate (essential, imo, for a new player), and the ability to group stealth past most aggro (saves time fighting crap you don't need to fight).
