I have no idea how to get a group together or how to work in a group...anyone care to help me out or explain it to me?

You can start a group by either rightclick another player and choose invite to group or type /invite playername. Groups usually are set with a tank who holds the aggro, one or more healers and classes who deal damage (dps). How to work in a group depends on the class you play. To find players to group with, either ask in the chatchannels or get your LFG (looking for group) tag on.

dont just send blind invites though, a lot of people wont respond to them. Send a tell and ask if they want to group. or go into /ooc chat for area chat or your level chat /# of your level chat and ask if anyone wants to group with "your class and level" and maybe what you want to do. and also put your LFG tag on.

You can duo or trio, and a full group is 6 players. there are lots of combinations dont always have to have a tank.

my Wizard has duo'd with a scout and done just fine. It really depends on what you want to do.

Be sure to let the people you group with know that you are new and haven't grouped yet. The vast majority of people will be happy to help a real newbie, but may be less forgiving of 'noob' mistakes from someone trying to hide their newbie-ness.

Right after logging in, read the stuff in the chat box. There will be a note what channels you entered, with numbers in brackets behind it. There should be a channel named like a level range, "lvl 1-9" for example. Use the shlash followed by this number to chat in the channel.

/1 hello, I'm looking for a group

Amost nobody in the lower levels will use the LFG tool, so don't rely on it. Become familier with what each class is able to do.

For your group, you will need a bare minimum of:

1. A good tank

2. A good DPS class

3. A good healer

Tanks: Guardian, Berserker, Shadowknight, Paladin. (In some cases you can also use a Monk/Brusier/Swashbuckler or several other classes .. but they aren't *as* good)

Healers: Templar, Inquisitor, Defiler, Mystic, Fury, Warden (In some groups you will need two healers, never mix two healers of the same armor type. Templar/Inquisitor are plate, Defiler/Mystic are chain, and Fury/Warden are leather)

DPS: Wizard, Warlock, Swashbuckler, Assassin, Brigand, Monk, Brusier, Necromancer, Conjuror

NOTE: I mentioned that the LFG tool is never used. The best way to find people is to use /who all. Some examples of this command would be:

/who all 12 18 Swashbuckler (This will return a list of all non-anon Swashbucklers between level 12 and 1

/who all 13 17 Guardian (This will return a list of all non-anon Guardians between level 13 and 17)

SUGGESTION: Do not send blind-invites. Send the person a /tell first and ask them if they would like to join your group. If they agree, THEN invite them.

Hope it helps, this is a really *really* basic idea but it should get you going.

Blind /tells can be just as annoying as blind /invites. The /LFG tool on my server is quite active and very useful. It shows all the people with the /LFG flag up. You can form a group in 5 minutes using the tool.

If you do choose to send those blind /tells or /invites, make sure you check where a person is before sending. If they are in an instanced dungeon or something, they will probably not want to come out to group with you. Look for people in the level-appropriate general access areas (Commonlands, Steppes, Nek Forest, etc).

Also, if you're going to spam the channel with your LFG, make sure you include your class, level and intentions (HQ, XP, Farm Nameds, etc) and desired zone.

example: 43 SK LFG. XP in OOLS or RE. Will mentor.

It's pretty acceptable to throw one of those out every 30 minutes or so (in the level appropriate channel). Also, keep an eye for others LFG messages. See someone close to your level, send them a /tell and start a group. So many people send out the /LFG hoping to find a group of 5 just waiting for their specific class. Instead, try actually making a group. Once you get 2-3 together, the rest usually comes together quickly.

The basics outlined by other responses about classes and their roles in the group are good. I just started my first DPS, so don't know exactly how to play him in a group yet. But, if you want REAL basics: my tank (SK)...I pull the MOBs and make sure they're always hitting me instead of anyone else. My healer...stands in the back...doesn't really watch the fight...just watches the health bars of the group members and keeps 'em green.

One other issue to pay attention to when grouping are the group leader loot options. For a pickup group (PUG) I usually want straight lotto. Keep an eye out for no-trade items that come up. If they're class specific and someone from that class is in the group, it's usually deferred to them. Also, quest items that people need, same. But if it's not "No Trade" and no member of the group can use it, roll on it.

A lot of groups move pretty fast, or seem to for a new player. As was mentioned earlier, let the group know that you're fairly new to grouping and if you need to slow down for a minute, just send a ""/g need to catch my breath guys".

The loot and xp in a group is much better than solo, so you're on the right track. Once you get by "new guy" status, you'll be fine.

GL

SC
