K So I played EQ1 for 5 years as an enchanter then a cleric in one of the best guilds in the game. Then i played WoW since its launch as a Prot Warrior in an endgame raiding guild. But now im bored and need some advise. I played EQ2 when it was first launched for a week or so and have a 21 Froglock Templar. (I havnt played Eq2 in like 2 years) I Was wondering if EQ2 is worth going back to, are there still guilds raiding and how are the servers in general.. also can someone give me a good PVE server with guilds that still raid on them where i can start again... Ill prolly make an Illionist, i really enjoyed being an Enchanter in EQ, Are Illionists in demand for raiding and grouping or are Coercers more like Enchanters, or should i stay with my Templar.. Someone provide some insite please.

Worth getting back into? Yes. Keeping the 21? Nah, you can easily hit that level in two weeks of casual play. It doesn't get tough to level until about 30~ish. If you do get back into it and want to get all of the expansions, get Echoes of Faydwer and you'll get it all for one price.

The game is getting better everyday and the last expansion was awesome and the upcoming one looks just as promising. As for your templar i would dump it and start over. Play a bunch of different ones to sit what you like. It really has become a great game.

You can hit 21 in about 2 days not grinding either.

Things to note: its best not to compare the EQ1 classes with the EQ2 classes, there are many many differences.

yes, game is very much worth getting back into. High populations on all servers, but specially in the RP servers. No need to go to an excesively large population server though, you can find good groups in any server you go to. As for Illusionist Vs Coercer... my preference has been Coercer, since they give out much more dps for the bang.. and when you charm an NPC, you can really have some RP fun, . Illusionists are still needed for mage groups in raiding, and there aren't alot of them to go around... so if you want to stick it out to the end-game, those 2 classes are very good and in demand currently.

I dont raid but either are asked for many times in raid guilds. They are similar just depends on what city you want to be aligned too. Plus dont forget about Kelethin and Neriak now. 4 places to start with a 5th being added on the next expansion.

Im not worried about the Time it takes... Im used to grinding and questing. Ive been a end game mmo raider for 8 years.. Im more conserned about population and which class to choose atm...

How does your starting city effect your character? in Eq1 it did basically nothing.

Though admittedly, its chanters, bards and shammies that are normally needed at the moment (and have been for a while).

The best way to pick a server is to create your character in about the middle of your normal expected playtime, when you get to the server select bit it will list the servers on current online population, with the busiest at the bottom - it also shows which are PvP, RP, Station Exchange as well.

To be honest Qeynos is always the most populated city so if you are into crafting that helps alot.

Thanks for all the help.. Got another question though..

Illusionist vs Shaman (Mystic i think) What do yall think. Shamans in Eq1 were awesome, ( I know you shouldnt relate but still) Are shamans in demand and what do people think of them, I have read all the discriptions but id like to hear from people that actually play if shamans are good, Do they still get Slow and haste and heal abilitys?

Shamans are a good class but their DPS is horrid, except when you start getting AA's to spec the Mystic. The defiler is all about healin and wardin their DPS is like -100 LOL. I love the defiler have played several.

Shamans are definitely in demand. All healers are for that matter. There's a big but though. Neither mystic nor defiler is the same class in any way shape or form as EQ1. While we get slows and a damage debuffs, we are primarily a healing class, not a hybrid.
