in the end, race is merely important for what you want to look like, imo. an exception of course being the fae/arasai and their slowed falling speed, but aside from that, its pretty much 100% aesthetics.

As mentioned above, race really doesn't matter as equipment dominates any racial stat differences. There are a few minor differences you can get out of your racial tradition picks, especially for the (also mentioned) fae and arasai.

I find the single biggest (literally) difference is character size - in groups, tall characters are good as you don't end up fighting the entire encounter with your gnome head stuck up the backside of your ogre tank. In tight confined dungeons, small characters are far easier to move around. Ths has been fixed to a degree over time, but dungeons like stormhold used to be torture for taller races.

For racial tradition choices and character size issues (which are really not game breakers) my pick is actually half elf. 3 of the racial traditions are +5 permanent stat increases (big deal in the end game lol) and the race reward for the starter quests (in Q anyway) is about the best of any race (earing with about a total of +20 to stats spread across all 5)

Race really matters most at the beginning. And Ogre is definitely one of the best for making the early game go smoothly. The extra Strength, Stamina, and Hit Points are felt most at this stage of the game. So, for what it's worth, Ogre Shadowknight is probably one of the best choices you could have made for getting into the game, even if you don't stick with it over the long run.

As it was stated by alot of people already. It will only affect you early game where the high strenght can help a bit, however after level 10 it does not make any difference.

You would see a pretty big difference between an ogre and an erudite shadowknight up to about the 20s. At that point gear takes over and makes most racial stat differences irrelevant.

Shadowknights are one of the few classes that recieve benefit from pretty much every stat. Str = combat art damage, autoattack damage, 75% of your power pool, agi = avoidence, sta= HP, Wis = Resists, Int = spell damage, and the other 25% of your power pool.

I think SKs get more spells than combat arts, but because autoattack damage is also included both stats are important.
