I noticed lately that my tinkering skill went up when I was making some grey con'd items. I didn't think that was possible. Any how, does anybody know if there is a difference in the rate of increase in your skill level depending upon the color of the item that you make? And if so, is there some quantification of the difference? In otherwords -- if there is a certain percentage chance of increasing your skill with a white item, how much does the chance go down if u make a blue, green or grey item.

I'm not sure the exact percentile ratios for skillups, but I know that for tinkering you can get skillups from a gray item.

Tinkering and Transmuting both can be raised by grey recipies. There is just less chance of getting a skill up. Do a search in the forum and check out the sites listed with tinkering guides and they might tell you what the exact percentage is.

Is/wasnt there a cap on lower end item usage though for Tinkering or was it based on the Adventure level of the Tinkerer?

When it went live it was changed to highest tradeskill OR adv lvl and are just considered to be secondary skills now, not secondary tradeskills any more.

not sure if this is the same in tinkering, but I have levelled my main crafter to 350 transmuter doing virtually all grey recipes. My wife is currently leveling one of her chars in transmuting doing the same. I know there is a dev statement saying you get less skill-ups from grey combines. But I have to say, in my experience leveling, and in my wifes , I can't see any evidence of that. We both seem to get just as many skill-ups from grey combines as from white.

I've looked but I havent found anything that confirms that there is difference based on the lvl of the item -- it would be nice to know if there really was -- on vox there is a huge difference in component cost -- 2c for salty loam while 1g or so for bonded rt now (or it was last night). It would be nice if I could max out my tinkering on the cheaper low lvl items

I know in Transmuting the skill ups on grey recipes had a lowered cap of 25% meaning you average 1 skill up in 4 combines for grey recipes. It was better percentage but higher cost for higher levels. I was seeing about the same results on my alt for Tinkering but capped her out. She was at the time, a level 45 primary tradeskill though and I am wondering if this was the issue. I am going to grind with her a little tonight and see what I find out now that she is in her 60's wtih primary skill.

it is 25% min chance for skill up no matter what level item you are making . ok it is 0% if you are at your cap I have noticed about a 60% - 75% chance for skillup making even con items. This is much faster than grinding on grey. In the past it was a 5% min for tinkering but this was change to act like transmuting during the same update that cut the resources in half.
