View Full Version : AA and attributes - I'm confused

Let's take a wizard as an example. I think the consensus right now is that going the AA route of STR and AGI is best. Ok, that's confusing to me because a wizards main attribute is INT. But ok... there are some good things in that STR tree so it becomes more obvious when looking at the tree's descriptions. But what about the wizards attributes. The modifiers on armor and jewelry. Should they also go towards STR and AGI? Or stay with the good 'ol INT? The same confusion can be found in any class as it's main attribute might not be reflected in it's most popular AA line. I just chose the wizard as an example.

I'm not that familiar with the Wizard Achievements, but your point is probably true for most of the classes. As a wizard, your main stat is INT, so that is what you should focus on item an such. The achievements you should focus of getting special skills or buff.

<p>If I read your sig correctly, I'm an old veteran player making a glorious return to EQ2 as a noob also. I'm in the same boat as you learning about the new stuff, but I'm reasonably certain that when people say "go with STR" or "go with WIS" when discussing AA they are only talking about the abilities each line gives you, not that you necessarily need to pump up that actual stat per se.</p><p>Depending on class, you may well need to raise certain stats that aren't your primary stat for various reasons, but I'm pretty certain that when discussing AA one has nothing to do with the other.</p><p>Your best bet, imo, would be to look for info in the class forum for the particular class you are interested in approaching AA and stats as completely separate issues.....If you don't find the info you are looking for make a post asking about AA and stats for your class. These boards are really friendly and if you make the effort to research your class and do some learning on your own, most people seem willing to help out when you get stuck.</p>

<p>Yeah, don't think that taking the STR line means wizzies need to get STR gear. It's just that the abilities granted by that line are the best choice for most.</p><p>When you're looking at gear, go for what helps you most. INT for damage and power pool, some WIS to boost resists. The other stats are like spitting in the ocean - they might raise avoidance or total health, but big woo. An extra 50 HP isn't going to save your life when you get agro. <img src="/smilies/136dd33cba83140c7ce38db096d05aed.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

To use the Wizard as the example your AA line would be something like STR for the perks in the STR line. But your Gear and your Racial perks that you get every even level up to level 50 should be INT and to a lesser extent Wis. As always INT is for spells dmg and Wis is for you resistance and er um something else but you should have a good WIS.

The achievement lines aren't really taken to increase your attributes. They are more valued for the special skills and bonuses they provide under those lines (which is why there is no reason whatsoever to add more than 4 points to the very first ability of a line to unlock the second ability).

You are probably going to be able to max out your primary casting/fighting stats with items and buffs anyway, so your best option is go down the AA path that gets you the best abilities. The four points you spend on the stat bonuses is sort of a speed bump you get over to get to the good stuff in the line. (Unless they're useful to you and if they are all the better!)

Thank you everyone! I assumed this was the case but it's nice to have it confimed. Thanks! <img src="/smilies/e8a506dc4ad763aca51bec4ca7dc8560.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

The Wizzy (sorcerer) AA line doesn't run as you would expect it to. The Int line, where you would expect it to do more damage actually just works towards less hate. The Wis line, where you expect it would be more towards defence it actually gives your spells more damage ability. I thought that was confusing in itself but loving the results. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>Int is clearly the most important stat for a wizzie - but you will also notice that the aa points allocated to int for a wizzie only give 4 per point - so the 4 aa points needed to reach the "meat" of the aa tree will provide you an extra 16 INT - really not significant compared to the bonuses you get from the abilities in the tree itself. Nice if it matches the abilities you want, but not enough to affect your choice.</p>
