View Full Version : Idea- Shared Housing?
The idea for a house in general is pretty neat, but i rarely ever go in there because it's so boring after you arrange everything. The only fun I have is when i see one of my friends is in my house, or i randomly visit them. Also at higher levels the houses get very big, too big for one person (allthough you can easily fill it up with junk, i know). I think it would add to more of the social aspect if you let 2 people share a house. I am not talking about a guild hall though , just regular housing. I know you can add a trustee, which is a step in the right direction, but it still is not "my house". Basically I would like to see either the ability to have 2 owners. You could make it for higher levels to have less problems with newbies stealing other peoples things (meaning newbies have less of a reputation to defend), and more expensive. I'd really want to see the housing element get used more. Just my thoughts.

Something that is continually suggested with no action taken. I've even submitted my own feedback on the matter as well. So I'll just say again (and will continue to say as more posts bring it up) YES to co-ownership!

I'm sorry, but what is the social aspect of co-ownership of a house? It would seem to bring nothing more than a trustee having access to the house. If you don't go to the house as you say, why would you go back there to just talk to a friend that also owns it, that would be no different than meeting a friend that is a trustee there.
It would bring a few things. First of all the whole selling point of this game is that it is an MMO, not a single player game. The current housing system brings things back to a single player experience, whereas the game was created specifically for co-op, pvp, and social interaction with hundreds of others in a community. The main reason I want co-ownership is as I explained before : Being a trustee isn't enough. If I am only a trustee, even if I help pay upkeep and furnish the house, it is still under someone else's name and I don't get any broker slots. Going back to the MMO argument, everyone has these pretty houses they pay upkeep for, and nobody sees them. As vain as it sounds, people want to flaunt their houses and the time they put into them. I personally don't have a nice house at all, but I can see wanting to have a big one. Since the whole game is based around community, there should be more of a reason for having a house, other than using it as a drop off point for quest rewards you can't fit in your bank. Maybe a house rating system of sorts, I've seen some really nicely made ones. I originally though the housing system would be a zone in itself, with a virtual nieghboorhood of sorts. By having mutliple owners, you could see everyone cooperate into buying something together. In conclusion, a house is a status symbol in the game, just like good armor/epics and a good mount. By allowing multiple people to own a house, it gives high-end more to do instead of just grinding for loot as it encourages a greater feeling of it being another co-op aspect of the game instead of solo.

It was actually one of the things me and my friends were hoping would be put in in the two years we were absent.

We're quite happy with everything so far, but would love either Guild specific housing or multi-character owned housing. Its definately not a make or breaker, but would add a larger sense of satisfaction to our group. Kill together, live together, drink together.

My wife and I both play. She seemed disappointed we both can't own the house. It's her house and I'm a trustee, which is close, but not quite the same. I'd be for shared ownership of a house.

Definately not the same, because if its a 6 slot house you still only get to use your 2 slots from your shoddy apt. =(
Yeah Feanox, thats what I was getting at. I know the guild halls wont be coming soon, even though I figured they'd have them by now, but at least being able to share a house at the most basic levels would feel like more of a group activity.

I've given this a lot of thought and you can, in effect, share a house with some caveats (like unresponsive pets.) What you need to do is to buy a second house. In other words, there is no two-fer. If you have between the 2 of you: an inn room (owed by you) and a house (owned by your SO), you only get access to the 2 slots you have paid for, not half a share in the SO's 6. This effectively gives you, as a pair, a total of 8 slots. However, you can upgrade your share to as much as 6, which gives the two of you 12 slots total that can be accessed from your shared home. I don't know what the deal is with rent on the second property, whether you can make the initial payment and then let it go unpaid or not, but retain the rights to sell out of your shared home. We have been considering doing this. After the initial outlay, the upkeep really isn't that bad IMHO, even if you do need to pay upkeep on both. Having an in-home mailbox can come in handy as well, for transfer of items between toons when you have the time to spare.

sounds like a pretty good idea, hopefully it's something they add to the game

Nice idea and i guess a lot of people would like the idea of shared housing even shared banks etc in game. The one thing sony avoids with one person ownership is messy divorces. You even see things going to court over couples with shared accounts in MMO's with people arguing who played a character the most

One owner makes it easy and only place your valuable items in some ones house if ofcorse it is going to last forever.

It's the same with guild banks, don't allow people you don't trust to have access to your things. Guild banks get cleared out, and the GMs say there is nothing they can do. Because it's true, it's your fault for giving that person access in the first place. Overall i think it would be add more to the game. I was thinking of ways to make housing better, to have more people see others houses, other than broker-buying, and the only thing i could think of is instanced nieghborhoods. But i know thats a big task, so i just stick to the shared housing idea.

I would like to see much bigger houses (not necessarily guild houses) soon though. The EoF houses and Neriak houses were very disapointing.

I agree with Soan - don't let someone you don't know or trust be a co-owner.

I'd absolutely love to see this idea come to fruition. I personally would probably still have my main 'own' my main hall, and continue to use the standard apartment for my alts, but I know previously I would have preferred the proposed option and I believe that enough people would like to see this happen as well.
