Relatively new player here. I played EQ2 when it was first released, then went to the dark side for two years. I got burned out over there and am now really enjoying how EQ2 has evolved.

Anyways, I hit level 10 tonight and I have a Dark Elf tradition to choose. As a caster I was looking at the +5 to INT and 3% power traditions. I assume that at higher levels 5 INT will be an insignificant increase (please educate me if I'm wrong in saying that). But if 3% power scales with my level then it would still be quite beneficial at higher levels...I would think.

Also, how important is it for me to cut off my adventuring XP for the sake of obtaining AA's? Should I start doing it immediately, or just not really worry about it? I'm not hardcore, I don't plan to raid, so I'm in no hurry to level. But at the same time I want to level quicker than a snail.

-Thanks

As I understand it they do not scale, but remember when you level you power is increased and the 3% means more. I would recommend that you choose to have a better in combat power regain over the power and stat increase

Now in regards to the AA thing I have been lvling a char up doing as many quests as possible and have not halted my adventure xp and my AAs have = my lvl so I don't think you should halt your xp just for the AA, do as many quests as you can and you have just as much fun as the rest of us.

Edit: I added something after rereading it... and spelling

Sorry if I worded it poorly. But basically, I was hoping that the 3% is essentially recalculated as you gain more power, which you are saying is indeed the case. So thanks!

In regards to your advice that I get more power regen, I don't recall a particular regen tradition in the list I get to choose from , but I could have missed it. Regardless I will check again tomorrow. And I will look for regen stuff as I progress.

Thanks for the reply!

What mage class are you? Power regen and more power really doesn't mean as much for a Necro for instance than a Wizard. If I was a Necro I would go for the Int. However you can respec at anytime with accumulative costs. The cost resets after 30days. Just pick what would benefit you in the moment and you can later change it to suit your needs.

Have to pop in to clarify some things.

INT is what determines the size of a mage's power pool and the amount of damage his spells do.

Intelligence is easy to come by. Gear and adornments will be the best way of increasing your INT, and as such, I'd absolutely choose 3% power over +5 INT.

Not only that, but INT has a cap, and though it's not easy to reach, the benefits you get from it decrease the closer you get to the cap. As you near the cap, you might be getting only 3 or 4 power per point of INT. So having 5 extra isn't all that much. But 3% of a 5000 power pool? 150.

You do the math.

Stat cap is calculated as level x 15. At level 10 your int cap is 150. The returns nuke dmg per point of int is very large in the beginning then drops off towards the end. So around about half the stat cap per level your returns start diminishing. If at level 10 you are not above 75 int then I would go for the int for extra damage. You can always change your traits later in the game at your local wizard guild area if you need to. Whatever you do decide. It is not a make or break deal as I already mentioned you have the ability to respec your character traits whenever you want. For a cost. Think it might be free the first time.
