View Full Version : Need Lots of Horned Leather Pelts

Does anyone know of a great spot for horned leather pelts? I've been harvesting around the Drednever Crash Site, but finding very few burrows.

The ruins of the temple on Tenebrous Tangle has a heavy nest spawn with about a dozen at a time and a fairly rapid respawn. I usually work there, then go across the river and harvest roots by the Shrine to the Wurm King. Rinse and repeat and you should get your hides. Gorgs in the ruins are level 57/58.

Thanks, Looker! I'm headed there now. Edited to say: Thought I should come back and tell you -- I got 10 horned leather and a dragonhide pelt on my very first click. That was a very good tip!

Yeah! I hit that location a lot when I needed those pelts -- best place for T7 that I know of. I don't know if it's just me, but those dragonhide pelts seem to drop a *lot*. I consider it a failure if I don't get at least one on any night I go harvest there. I get *way* more rare T7 pelts compared to roots (literally about 10:1), despite getting way more roots. (even accounting for all the meat the nests give) Anyone else notice this pattern?

I'm currently sitting on 104 of them but about to craft 50 or so rare bags, quivers etc.

Best place I know of to harvest T7 hides. GU37 will bring us a reduction in meat and and increase in hides in traps.

The perimeter of the Vultak Scavenging Isle is good too. You have to kill once in a while but to me that makes it less boring to harvest. You can harvest stone nodes there also while waiting for repops.

Or you were a victim of the PRNG, which is streaky.

The only way to get an average with the RNG is over time, a lot of time. You cant really look at it on a hour or two per day pattern. If you look at total hours harvesting a zone you will detemine a base average "drop" factor. Each tier appears to be different. The higher you go, the less frequent the rare drops.

Currently, I see an average over time of 1 rare per hour harvesting in T7. Some days you get 3-4 per hour, some days you get nothing for hours on end. That is why they call it random, that is why its called an average. /shrug

If you count on about 1 per hour in T7 you should find that to be fairly correct over time. If you dont, let me know and I will re-visit my information.

I agree with you. I think it's far more likely the RNG than an unusual drop rate in that area. But, since two people mentioned that the drop rate for dragonhide pelts seemed very high there, I thought I would point out that I wasn't getting those results. edited to say: /sniff....

I always figured it was just the RNG toying with me.

Just for your interest and to clear up a few odd superstitions I've seen mentioned in game channels ... Within a teir (e.g. level 60-70) there will be many nodes that drop the same items (e.g. lots of dens that drop pelts) in different locations and different zones and possibly with different node names (e.g. "Tangled Nest" in Tenebrous, "Sand Crawler Den" in Barren Sky). However, "behind the scenes" each of these nodes points to just one table of harvest results ... and regardless of the zone or location, it is all the same table. Whether you harvest that node in Barren Sky or in Bonemire or in Loping Plains, whether it's called a den or a burrow or a nest, whether it's at +47,0,-500 or -997,265,+53, every node of the same type and tier looks up results on the exact same table. So if you happen to find you get more rares in Barren Sky than in Loping Plains, or if Tuesdays are your lucky harvesting days, or anything like that, it's not because there's any difference in the results in that zone, nor is it because there are "happy hour" type times when rares are more plentiful, or anything else I've seen speculation about. It's just the RNG being its lovable self. OK it's slightly more complicated than "just one table" because in fact there are multiple tables per node and the table it picks is based on your harvesting skill level (higher skill = a table that gives you a slightly better chance of rares and multiples) but regardless of the zone you are in, it will always pick that same table for your particular skill level and that particular type of node. Theoretically we *could* change that, but it would become a nightmare to maintain and I personally would strongly oppose any such suggestion! Already as it is, with multiple result tables per node per tier, there's a heck of a lot of data. Reviewing the tables, changing imbues to have one name, adding rare roots to bushes, and tweaking some ratios took me over 2 full working days of staring at spreadsheets, plus then required a lot of QA time to check it also. So no, I think I can guarantee there will never be any arbitrary or noncritical drop rate changes in this area; in fact after this last change that's going in with GU37, if I never have to tweak the harvesting ratios again I'll be a very happy halfling! Your bit of dev trivia for the day.

After pelts get their change, the only thing I could possibly think of that I find lacking with harvestables is how imbuement materials take up the space one would normally get regular resources. If we could get a hit of regular resources PLUS an imbuement material on a hit where an imbuement mat is awarded, then harvesting would be completely fixed in my mind. Basically it would work like the HQ harvested items from T7... You get a hit of regular resources and as a bonus to that hit you get the HQ mat as well (osseous lumber, etc). Make imbuement mats like that, and I'll love you forever!

I harvested for a Sage, Tailor, Jeweller and Carpenter in TT and I got far more Nimbus Roots than Dragonhide pelts. Part of the problem here is actually the silly amount of pelts that carpenters are using in tier 7. For 6 tiers boxes and tables have needed roots and suddenly in tier 7 they use pelts instead. Tier 7 seems to want us to use almost anything except wood and roots It's just one of the many inconsistencies that were introduced in the recipe revamp around GU24 along with rugs and lights now being made on the woodworker bench instead of the loom and forge respectively, etc.. Domino, any chance you could take a look at recipe inconsistency and tidy up a bit some time after the next expansion is bedded down?
