View Full Version : Importance of INT for a melee mystic

How important is it to load up on INT for a melee mystic (using CAs instead of spells) equipment? STR appears to affect autoattack damage and CA damage (except for DoTs). INT appears to affect procs and DoTs. All CAs (including DoTs) and autoattack seem to crit off the melee crit percentage (which in my case is 100%). Not sure about bear claws. Do most mystics try to keep both STR and INT high? At the expense of what? I would suppose it depends somewhat on how many procs you have? Currently my INT is very low (67) and I am wondering how important it is to give up some STR/STA/AGI/WIS to increase it? What stats do you look for in a piece of equipment? Also: Do you keep your spells around? I haven't been but am thinking that it might be nice to have some ranged ability, so am considering bring them back.

If you go with a melee build then there really is no reason to work on INT. In fact the bonuses you need for INT to see any difference on your proc damage has to be significant. I wouldn't worry about it at all (the only INT bonuses I can see are whatever our equipment provides after raw HP, Power, WIS, STR of course and the INT adornments on the ear slots). As a younger Mystic, I work on WIS primarily and STR (though I generally prefer raw HP and Power boosts over stats). Bear Claws is also from STR.

For ranged pulling I usually use debuffs anyway.

I pretty much ignore intelligence. My intelligence being as high as it is results from SOE's penchant for putting high wis and high int on the same really nice items.

I didn't even put int adorments on my earrings, I put the +100 to my lower resists instead.

I believe these are still true, but I know resists were adjusted with EoF. This from LU #13

Stats

Higher Strength increases your bonus to melee damage.

Increasing your Agility improves your chance to avoid an attack.

Higher Intelligence increases your bonus to spell damage.

Increasing your Wisdom improves your resistances to arcane damage types (Heat, Cold, Poison, Disease, Magic, Divine, and Mental).

The effectiveness of Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Wisdom buffs has been increased. The effective cap is set at 7 times the character's level. For example, a level 30 fighter will receive an increasing melee damage bonus up to 210 Strength, while a level 40 wizard will receive an increasing bonus to spell damage up to 280 Intelligence

However, you have to remember that higher STR does not work the same way for Melee classes as it does for Mystics; similarly with INT and mages. While we get a bonus for higher attributes, we don't get the additional bonus if we were a melee or mage class. It's still worthwhile pursuing some of these stats, especially since caps where modified sometime ago, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it will always work the same way for us. For me and raiding, getting higher WIS is the best way to go, but when I solo I swap out gear to get a better balance with STR and INT.

What is meant by 'using comabat arts instead of spells'.

Can you choose to make your spells combat arts instead of getting them a spells? I am level 18 and it seems everything I have recieved from my level ups is a spell.

If you have the EOF expansion, there is a line of AA choices that allows you to use a CA instead of its corresponding spell. Many feel that between those (and lack of other choices besides buffs) and the 100% crit from the kos tree you get a good amount of bang for your buck.

what in the kos tree gives you 100% crit chance?

One of the abilities under the Agility KoS AA tree gives you 100% (12.5% per point) chance of critically hitting on melee hits (which includes the use of combat arts).
