As stated in title I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on +5 defense and how much would it help in terms of tanking. I ask because I've been thinking of making a tank and noticed Humans get racial tradition for +5 defense and leadership which can buff an addittional 5 defense. Any input is appreciated thanks.

+5 Defense would be the equivalent of 1 level higher defense then a similar tank. So as a 20 tank you would have a defense of a 21 tank (still not as good as a real 21 tank because of the other stat increases like HP, etc...).

Ogres also have both of the same traits to buff defense. Barbarians do not get a defense buff, but they are the only race that can buff their physical mitigation to crushing damage.

I don't think the battle leadership is really a good factor to consider though because 3 minutes every 30 minutes is way too infrequent to base a race off of.

I like to look at racial traits on character creation too, but they aren't really 'that' important. I do try to get a race with +3% health and + to some defensive skills with just about any melee class I pick. I have started to believe that resists are really the most important racial trait, however, because they are very important in raids.

Fae/Arasai definately have the 'best' traits as the game is now, but the older races might get a revamp someday. They get 5% runspeed, +5 defense, and +3% to either health or power, not sure which. Only drawback of playing one of these races as a tank is that they start with lower strength, however this can be overcome fairly easily once your about 20+.
