Im hearing some people talk of tiers(tier2, tier 3) etc. and Im wondering what it refers to. At first I figured it had to do with every ten levels or so, ie. 1-10 being tier 1, 11-20 being tier 2 and so on, but the more I read the more that doesnt seem to match up. Anyone mind explaining what this is?

You're right, although it's more like 1-9, 10-19, 20-29...

Tiers are indeed every 10 levels. T1... 1 - 9, T2...10 - 19, T3... 20 - 29 and so on.

Hope this helps

Essentially you are right. The tiers are generally a 10 level span. The word can be used to reflect a lot of things about eq2 so I see how someone might get confused. Its a little cloudy. This is the basic run down:

Tier 1: level 1-9. The suburbs around Qeynos and Freeport are considered T1. With EoF and now Neriak / Darklight the development of the game has tried to dissolve the hard line of a tier. So you see they start to get smushed together (Greater Faydark caters to more than 1-9 -- so its Tier1 and 2).

Tier 2: level 10-19 (Antonica, CL, Greater Faydark, Darklight)

Tier 3: level 20-29 (Thundering Steppes, Butcherblock, Nektulos Forest)

Tier 4: level 30-39 (Enchanted Lands, Zek, some of Butcherblock and some of Steamfont)

Tier 5: level 40-50 (Everfrost, Lavastorm, Feerrott, Steamfont) -- the trick with this and the following tiers is with the tradeskills mostly. Level 50 spells are made from tier 5 components. So some could theorize that it is more tier 5 than tier 6. The original cap was 50, and the new material catered more to 51 and up (again thinking of tradeskills).

Tier 6: level 51-60 (Sinking Sands, Pillars of Flame, lesser faydark... etc)

Tier 7: Level 61-70

The way I think about it reflects on the tradeskill raws more than the adventure level nowadays. Where would I go to get Carbonite clusters... well that's a T3 ingredient... so TS / Nekt / BBM.

Anyway, this isn't meant to be all inclusive, but it is more of a guideline of "zones" /tiers within the game.

Also zones basically are certain tiers, and the nodes contained within them are also mentioned by tier sometimes. For example Desert of Flames expansion is T6, and Kingdom of Sky is T7.

You are correct for the most part. This game groups many different things into 'ranges' that have become known as tiers. You could also think of them as plateus or tables.

Adventure Leveling is tiered from 1-9, 10-19 etc....however mastercrafted items have been adjusted to upgrade at X2, meaning level 12, 22, 32 etc. Most zones have a general level range of about 10 levels, this varies some, but most zones are still classified as being designed for certain tiers. Commonlands is T2 (most mobs are 10-20) Nektulos is T3 (most mobs are 20-30) and Enchanted Lands is T4 (most mobs are 30-40).

Tradeskills are tiered along with adventur levels, the above zones I lised contain harvested items for the level ranges that adventure levels are likely to go there.

Achievement points have also taken on a Tier label. In the 1st tree you have your 1st tier skills, which are stat buffs, your 2nd tier skills which are usually special attacks, your 3rd and 4th skill tiers which usually deal with inflicting more or taking less damage, and your 5th tier skill which is a special ability. The skill at the beginning is referred to as the 'starter'. This termonology is not applied quite as much to the 2nd tree that was released with EoF because you are able to advance from one tree into the next instead of down a straight line.

Oh, and if it refers to DPS, its totally backwards Having Tier 1 DPS is a good thing!
