Hi guys,

Like the title says I would like to try a scout but am not sure which scout would be the most straightforward and best choice for a newcomer.

I read a lot of the scout posts and they all look so appealing *looks very angry at SOE for making the choice so [Removed for Content] difficult*

Dilemma here

Any tips/feedback would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hmm tough choice, Scouts can't solo well, or easily I should say, compared to other classes. I'm gonna say one of the Rogues, Brigand if evil or Swashbuckler if good.

Assassin's have to be stealth'ed for a lot of their attacks and that's not too friendly if you are starting out, Rangers are gonna turn you offs in the arrow departments. Bards are cool but solo slower than all the rest.

Rogues need positional attacks but that's easier to handle than the Predator needs for stealth.

I'd agree that Swashbuckler and Brig are easier.

I'm a brigand and I absolutely love it, but I'm very busy on the battlefield and even if everything goes perfectly I can't solo on the same level as my inquisitor could at the same level.

If you definately want to be a scout that can solo I would suggest swashbuckler or brigand. I believe swasbucklers are easier to solo between the two because they have less positional attacks and usually slightly higher dps.

I'm a brig. And I must say it is cake to solo. I can take 3 mobs my level easy. so many stuns, quick burst damage. And with a shield / sta line I can tank VERY well. dont let anyone tell you a brig or swashy cant tank, we most certainly can.

I can drop a mob in 3 moves if I do it right. well 4 if you count cheap shot, but it does no damage! Then we even get aoe attacks. Try out a swash or brig, you'll love it

but dont think you ARE a tank Saw an SK tank yesterday . . . made me cry wish i could keep myself healed like that.

I just had a thought...

If you're a new player you probably want to see th world. Rangers and bards are the fastest running scouts out there. They aren't as solo friendly but any class can solo non heroic content pretty easily.

Thanks for the tips guys; I thought scouts all dualwielded in EQ2. Can all scouts use shields?

Yes, all scouts can use sheilds. Brigands and swashbucklers have an achievement line they can take that gives them extra tankability (more aggro control and surviveabiilty) but I personally never use a shield.

In eq2 shields add to avoidence, not mitigation (they help you dodge attacks, but they don't lower the amount of damage you take when you're hit)

I think that swashbucklers are great soloers. I would highly recommend the swashbuckler class for a new scout.

If I had to pick one scout class and say it was easiest to play, especially soloing, it would definately be the swashbuckler.

They have less positional attacks than brigands so they don't rely on stuns as much. I think the brigand in higher levels may have more soloing potential though, because they get more stuns. Swashbucklers strength is dps and causing a mob to do less damage. Brigands strengths are causing a mob to take more damage (which means you can increase your dps by a ton) and they have more stuns.

I would guess that between a solo swash and a solo brigand the brigand can probably out dps the target if it is dispatched (a brigand debuff). In addition, the brigand can't reduce the amount of damage the mob does by much, but they can keep the mob from attacking them for like 15 seconds if everything is timed correctly, and that's a lot of time for a scout to inflict damage.

I find that on my brigand when I solo I either get completely overwhelmed and die without doing hardly any damage, or everything goes just right and I barely get touched. It just depends on if I get my casting order just right and if I end up missing on anything important.

I started one of each as an alt and another vote for swash or brig depending on where you want to start and such. They're a lot of fun, give you lots of fun tools to play with, and have a great long term future no matter what you want to do.

I've tried all the Scout classes except Troubador (havent rolled a Troubador, did have a Dirge) to level 30 and IMO the easiest to play is a Swashbuckler. As stated above, less positional attacks make them more solo friendly.

The class I've had the most fun playing though is the Assassin. Theres nothing to compare to the feeling I get when my Fae Assassin comes out of nowhere, plants his dagger between his enemies ribs while wearing his little cherubic smile and then glides away while his enemy dies, not quite sure just what happened...
