I just got my news letter from game spot. There was what looks like a sarnak screenie

Yeah I know, I saw that earlier. I think it's absolutly wonderful and reaffirms my want to play a sarnak as my main charactor. Heh to be honest I think it's cute The tail for some reason is not visable and that is irritating but if you look at the shadows you can see it.

Looks like a leaked screenshot lol and cool they get their own armor graphics...that armor wouldnt look right on any other race so it has to be lol. I dont know though it might be like that leaked video with the alpha fae

I like the legs. It always seemed that in Everquest it looked like every race was cut out of a mold and in some cases given a different head. To bad that's an NPC. I really hope that the play sarnak look similar to that and arn't just more human bodies with different heads using the excuse that they have been geneticaly/magically engeneered to give the body switch merit.

This is the npc sarnak by the way. The player race will apparently look completely different, and be able to wear the armor that every other race can wear.
Nayurayne
07-11-2007, 09:49 PM
Yes, that is what I'm worried about. I'm worried that they're gonna take that beautiful sarnak up there and give it the same body as everyone else so that it WILL fit all the armour that's around. It would fit with what lore they had put out so far too since the breed of sarnak we'll be playing is supposed to be different from the breed the NPC's are.

Isn't the new skeleton work supposed to be done sometime around or before RoK comes out? I'd say that iksar and sarnak are going to be given a similar skeletal structure. Edit: Er, which means that they'll probably look somewhat similar appearance-wise. I imagine that sarnaks will be much skinnier and taller however, but they'll probably stand more erect than their non-playable cousins.
Nayurayne
07-11-2007, 10:08 PM
Didn't Iksar always have the legs that bend like humans legs? That's what I was most worried about loosing to be honest. I never much liked the Iksar body shape...not in EQ2 and not from the pictures I saw from EQ1. I like the sarnak as it is in a picture because it looks different from the other races we have now. It actually looks like a beast race and not just a human skeleton that has been covered in scales and given a weird head. Oh yeah..and a tail...

Well i hope they narrow the toe area of the feet some ... reminds me a little too much of WoW type feet, wich have a tendancy to be huge on many creatures.

Amana wrote:
Doesn't look to bad but the "mouth" area almost looks like a hard beak from a bird instead of a dragon imho. Granted, there the beak is at the end of a long bridge plate, but in my opinion, that's always looked wrong to me. A couple of examples of beaked "dragons" would be the Stegosaurus and the Triceratops. Their mouth openings were only as long as their beaks, it didn't extend back along the bridge plate like the EQ1 Sarnak's do. So, as far as I'm concerned they are just correcting a genetic impossibility. It definitely looks much better than the EQ1 Sarnies that's for sure. Soo cannot wait to make and play one!

Yup Josgar that's what I am afraid of. As much as I love this game quest wise I always thought the only races that actually LOOKED different were the NPC races. All the player races all pretty mch look the same bodywise. Although I could be overreacting. We havn't even seen the player models yet...all I know is that that NPC Sarnak is beatiful and I would love to have a race like that to play. I hope that the changes between NPC and player leave the unique body structure intact.

So far, the ratonga are the only ones who have a unique body shape by the looks. The game does need variety like that, I'm tired of see human-molded models for every race, heh. Keep the digigrade style, make the feet smaller and give them a tail.

I think Frogloks do too but that's about it. Everyone else is the same body basically give or take size. I cam here from Horizons and as mch as the game had it's faults it did also have unique looking races. Now, EQ2 is wonderful on the quest end it just needs more races that don't look stamped right out of a human mold. But, as I said I may just be overreacting. I'll have to wait until they release screenshots or we hear a devs words word on the subject until we know for sure.

If they just gave us the option to toggle gloves Iksar and Trolls could show of those neat clawed fingers they have, plus you could see plate bracers for once....ahh well. I'll go ahead and make the prediction that Sarnak will have variable horn/crest configurations like the Iksar have and/or skin pattern options like Frogloks, and will likely be Medium more likely Large in size. memory serves me of Sarnak being as tall as my Troll Sk in EQ1 preluclin models.

I'm worried there will be a mess up... heh I don't want a Human model for these guys. As I said in my previous post. Make some adjustments, just not a plain old Human form with a sarnak head.
Nayurayne
07-12-2007, 04:32 AM
It's not the horn/crest modifications of the size of the model that concerns me. It's the body's actual shape. I like the shape of the sarnak in the picture shown. The long legs/arms and the beast like feet/legs. What I don't want is another lizardman that looks like a human body with an interesting head and a tail slapped onto the back.....even if it is taller or shorter or whatever. Anyway, none of us know exactly what SOE is going to do so fretting won't do any good. Just voicing my concerns because I fell in love with the Sarnak concept art and the NPC model shown and I don't want to play a sarnak that has the body that most of the other races has and have to see the nice cool one that I love and can't play.

If they could make todays armors fit on that funky Froglok model, I don't see any problems making it fit a sarnak model. The legs are basically shaped like a Froglok's as well, only instead of being squat down they are a bit more stretched out. The only problems I could foresee model wise are those hips. They've made their hips very bony so I can see some modeling issues with todays armors there.

I think they should leave the Iksar the way they are, skeleton change shouldn't lead to completely different models or I'll be [Removed for Content] lol.

I don't think they would change the iksar much. I mean, havn't they always sorta had that body type? Even in EQ1.. Why would they change it now? Naw I think the skeletal revamp is more about armours (at least from what I heard) then visual looks.

it it mu imagination or are they using the froglok skeleton as the base for the sarnac? just judging the way the armsand legs are positioned
