I don't quite understand the descriptions of the poison effects. A poison will say it does X damage instantly and then Y damage every few seconds. Then it will say it also does Z damage to target. What's the difference between X and Z? Or is the initial poisoning dmg the total sum of both X and Z? Confused.

Here's what I've seen about poisons so far, I'm a level 58 brigand.

The "Red" poisons

There's DoT poisons (Damage over Time) I think they they are called Hemotoxins, they do a medium amount up front and then a small amount every 4 seconds for a short time.

There's DD poisons (Direct Damage) they are Caustic poisons.

At higher levels there are also vitality breech and mental breech poisons, vitality is a life steal, mental is a power steal.

Of these 4 kinds of poisons, only one can be active at a time.

Once your high enough level there are also 'blue' poisons and I think 'purple' ones, you can use one of each type, up to 3 types of poisons in effect at once. The blue poison I use is a deaggro and I don't use a purple one right now, but I think they are debuffs.

The colors i refer to are for crafted poisons, which is the main kind of poison, but if you get poison from a quest it may have a different color than I listed, but count as if it were that color, you have to read the description to figure out where it should go.
