Hi all. Yet another player returning from WoW. I wont talk bad on WoW because I think its a great game, it just got a bit old.

I tried playing EQ2 for a bit but had a hard time getting in to any of the classes. The game itself looks and seems to play great. I was a long time player of EQ1. Ive come back and decided to try asking you all what you think I might like.

Im looking for a class that ultimately is wanted in groups. I also would like a challenging class that isnt just a one or two button "I win" class. Ive been looking around and even though it seems to be the least played, Im starting to get the feeling that Coercers may be what Im looking for? Doesnt have to be a great soloer as long as he can hold his own. Ultimately as I said above, I want a challenging class thats wanted in groups. Thanks to all in advance.

Most people don't understand the coercer so they aren't particularly wanted in groups in my opinion. It will be more like, "oh we have a spot open and they are lfg lets grab em". Not "OOOH a coercer we must have them in our group."

Well I would just like to say welcome back to the coolest game of all

Let me just say it is try about the Coercer they are a misunderstanded class , unless you have played one that is.

As for classes that are wanted in groups and are a challenge to play I would suggest a Mystic or Defiler (healers) or maybe a scout. As a general rule a group is made up of 3 key parts . Tank, healer and DPS. fighters are the tank with the brawlers an avoidance tank and the plate ones are the mitigation tanks. healers come is 2 sizes plate, chain and leather. (cleric, Sharman, druid)(reactive, ward, heal over time{hot}) DPS covers all mage and scout classes the ones that don't put out the large amounts are the bards and enchanter classes... these ones are more your support class able to a lot of different things. Bard add to groups through there songs and can adapt to any group formation to the make the best better, enchanters are called crowd control and take care of the additional unwanted mobs and enhance the group. blah blah blah

You know I'm probably confusing you. I know I'm confused

Play a bard, enchanter, or shaman.. fun to play and they are not 2 button and kill.

Also did you want to play PvP or PvE??

edit: missed spelling , "sigh"

Thanks for the responses. I will take a look at those classes. I will probably play on a PvE server, at least at first. I played exclusively on a PvP server in WoW but Im not sure if Im going to go that route for this game.

Well Im still waiting for the game to patch up after several hours but I see that I have a level 9 dirge. Im either going to try and give him another shot or maybe try starting a new troubadore. Seems like quite a few guilds are looking for them.

Don't let the earlier people's comments discourage you about a coercer. If a group doesn't understand them, it's probably not a group worth grouping with.

They are hands down the most challenging class to play, but they can, hands down, solo the toughest mobs of any class in end game.

If you really like the idea of the coercer give it a shot. Coercer is the power battery of choice for the MT group in raids and crowd control is becoming ever more important. No other class can turn the tide of a pull gone bad like the chanters.

My main's a defiler - and they are always wanted in groups and needed for raids. Solo is very doable but a little slow. One of the reasons why its easy to get a group at higher levels is that because soloing is slow, there are fewer around at the higher levels.

Coercer is a really challenging class, but from what I hear, its one of th emost rewarding in the game if you can make it work.

Bards are in high demand for raid guilds, largely because there are so few and because of Bladedance. The two classes I see the most calls for in the level channels are healers and tanks. If you want a class that will get a group readily, one of those classes are good. If you intend to raid, you might want to stay away from a tank, unless you think you will be able to secure a position as one of the few tanks in the guild. Coercers are challenging, though mostly in solo play. That is where charm and its inherent variability comes in. In group and raid play you don't charm as much (or at all), and frankly there is little reason for crowd control until you get to some high level zones. Power regen is nice, but as you know/will soon see you can do an adequate job of that with a bard. Dirges buff melee types better than troubadors, visa versa for troudabors with mages.

Coercers are still valuable because many groups want the regen and mezzer. It's common knowledge what the fundemental role is for the coercer however, I agree in the above statement that many people dont know alot about this class. I think the next expansion in September will introduce new benefits to the corcer and it will be much more sought after.

My recommendation would be a fury. There are a lot of them but it's a sought after class by any group. It's a healer with some nasty dps. It nukes hard and it's buffs/heals are highly sought after. A good solo class too.

Other than that the rarest classes would be bards. Groups kinda think of them as "we have an extra slot so lets fill it with the bard". Not very sought after except 1-2 on raids. Most high end raid guilds already have a couple so it might be hard finding a guild that will take you.

Dont go conjuror. Well rounded class but seems to be target for devs to nerf.

I took a six month hiatus a while ago so I know what it feels like to come back into something so grand.

My first piece of advice before really worrying about what class to play is to sit down and read through the changes that have been going on since the last time you played. New Live Updates have been added, perhaps new expansions or adventure packs since then, and many changes to class abilities.

As for classes, I can give my opinion only. All classes are good, and races now not much of an issue. If you want something that is wanted in groups, a tank class or healer is good. I cannot give an opinion on mage classes as I neaver really had one. With a tank class, Guardians got the defensive power to help, though healing downtime can be long if you have no healer or expensive if you want healing potions. Paladins and Shadow Knights are plenty but are good fighters and healers to some degree. I cannot say much on the Brawler type classes though.

For healers, if you want to mix some damage with healing, Fury or Warden is a good idea. I have not seen many Mystics around on my server but that doesn't mean that is a bad class. Templars are great healers ... fighters not so much unless you fiddle with their AA.
