I need to rant a little bit on the download speeds provided by Sony for the EverQuest II Launchpad. Something came up and I had to reinstall windows on my system and I was unable to find the EverQuest II CD's. So after a little digging around I found on Sony's EQ2 site the full installer download file. Everything works great with the down loader except the download speeds. I have Comcast 8MB connection and am able to download 8GB's+ in under 1 1/2 hours on my newsgroups so my bandwidth is there. I have been downloading EverQuest II from the launchpad now for over 130 hours. I try to leave my system running overnight to help accelerate the download and come to the morning to see my 5 hours left now says -8 hours remaining, which it halted. I then hit cancel and full scan again and it continued to download once again telling me another 5 hours remaining. I am looking that the files currently downloading and they are the music files for .mp3 for zones which are ~2MB apiece when you check you Sony folder. These 2MB files take over 45minutes each! Something needs to give, because at this rate I have wasted over 5 days of paid service to sit and watch my computer download EverQuest II at possibly 1KB a second.

This may not SoE's fault. Comcast is the culprit as are many other ISPs. How you ask? You've heard of all that talk about pirating music and software out there right? Comcast and quite a few others throttle the downloads of bittorrents and certain file types (MP3 included). Only reason I know that Comcast does it is that they had a news article about it and when they took over our local provider suddenly the game launcher slowed to a snail ONLY on those files.

Well it won't solve still having to download a bunch from the patcher but it will help some: http://www.fileplanet.com/160695/16...rQuest-2-Client This is the 3gb original trial. Then you just have to patch the remaining stuff over the patcher. I have comcast and the download speed from the patcher isn't that great but it isn't that slow either. And not all the files are mp3's and would not be throttled down that much. I also use bittorrent to download stuff and it has no problems downloading any file that I want. I think it is the patcher not the ISP.
