Greetings all,

I play with two other people and we typically try to form a good trio of classes to accomplish most things on our own. We've played EQ1, WoW, DAOC and gotten to level cap in all three.

Anyway, we just started EQII about a week ago and have experimented with several classes. Currently I am fairly set on playing a Warden and another is set on Paladin.

Granted we have, basically, Tank / Healer, we would seem to need DPS and/or Utility, or both. My wife is the undecided player and is looking for a class that would help our trio while still being "fun" to play.

The only requirements are that the class be non-evil and a melee type (non-caster / cloth wearer).

Suggestions appreciated and thanks in advance.

-rdm

Swashbuckler might be a good choice. They have good DPS, debuffs, evac, group invis, and they're really fun to play. (I played one to 20ish then betrayed her to Brigand, but I'm thinking about making another Swashbuckler)

She could also play a bard (dirge or troubadour) which have TONS of utility, but they're lacking in the DPS department... at least compared to a Swashbuckler. Ranger can DPS well but they don't have as much utility.

My 2 cents.

I concur with the swashbuckler as the choice here; Ranger's are good single target DPS, but many encounters in EQ2 are against groups of mobs. With the swashie's hate transfer and smuggle ability plus their very good aoe damage, it will round out your group nicely. And, they are very fun to play. (While a dirge or trouby does make the group better, a paladin/warden won't benefit enough from their abilities.)

A wizard may also be a nice add to tank/healer combo

Femke.

Since the OP wanted a non caster/melee type....I would reccommend a swashy as well.

Thanks to everyone for the replies and suggestions. She's currently trying out a Dirge and a Swashbuckler. Hopefully either one will round out our group fairly well so she can play whichever one she likes better.

-rdm

I know you said no caster, but my regular group has been a mystic, paladin, warlock and it is incredibly fun. Warlocks are great at blowing up groups of mobs and the mystic wards and paladin aggro really let her go to town.

That's just an opinion of course. Warden works well with the paladin. I will say to the OP that the Paladin player may wish to reconsider - paladins are not great DPS, the warden does ok DPS... a zerker would be a better choice. However, with a Paladin/Warden, the swashy is definitely the best non-caster option. Its not about what's efficient after all, its what is fun. Unfortunately the paladin, while not a bad tank, is going to be a bit frustrating. I have a paladin, and I had several friends who've had paladins in every game that had such a class type, and it has been frustrating for all of us. Kind of disappointing. Anyway that's a bit off topic. Swashy. But if you want to just have a fun class, don't pass up the troub or dirge, they aren't anywhere near the massive dps of a swashy, but they are kind of fun But for a paladin/warden combo, you need the swashy dps , otherwise you'll be standing there for a week per fight!!

A monk would be good if you dont have fun with the swashbuckler or bard.

Hm.. i would suggest SK, Fury/Warden and Brigand. SK has much better DPS then Pala .. Brigand als brings good DPS and debuffs in , and for the healer .. Fury has better DPS but Warden has better healings and is better for long fights aginst nameds where Mana is an issue.

My favorite trio would be monk, fury, swashbuckler. You have ports, group feign death, group invis and excellent dps. This makes just about any heroic quest doable, and fast since you can get around the world quickly and skip content you dont need with invis/train and FD. Most of these abilities aren't available at the start, but since leveling is so fast in this game, it wont be long before you have them. The dps is constant throughout the levels though. Although the fury and the monk are both leather classes, you can send the STR/AGI/STA gear towards the monk and the WIS gear toward the fury. If you decide to raid, the swash and the fury are fine, the monk is okay.
