I tried using search but didnt really find anything. Do the new Asarai make good necromancers? I havnt played the game since it first came out, and an evil version of the fae seems kinda interesting.

As many people have said in many threads in many forums before, Race does not matter. Within 8-10 levels you can balance out any racial minor advantages with stat gear. Just choose one you like.

the biggest factor in choosing race is whether or not you have to betray. Arasai are already evil so they can become necromancers straight away. If you had a penchant for halflings though, you would need to make a conjuror and betray to Freeport to be a halfling necromancer

Race is irrelevant. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Oh, wait a sec, wrong game...

well only time race makes a difference for necros is racial traits. Frogs for instance have a 2.5% health bonus on top of the 2 2.5% everybody gets. Not sure if ogres have the same benefit or not.

Yeah some races have racial traits where max power is increased by 3%, and extra mana is always nice. my iksar necro has it, but i dont think some races like ogre has it.

I enjoy froglok for the HP I get racially... he can take a hit or two unlike erudites that drop when a mob sneezes...

elves make good mages - balanced with int and wis slightly higher to start with and less increase agi / str bonuses whereas a ratonga is mostly scout based

Elves or Gnomes are pretty common for Summoners because of their high INT. I think Rattonga's are 3rd/4th. Rats are biased towards Scout class but are pretty flexible as all races with proper gear, mind you some of their racial traits are wasted on mage class.

My bias is for Rattonga's but thats personal taste.

Basiclly play the race you prefer the race isn't important.

Erudites make the best sorcerers because they have the highest int and % power traits. Necros really thrive on lots of stamina and HP unlike the other mage classes, INT is not that big of a deal even for people who don't raid but can get a hold of the legendary armor set. Before EoF it was rare to see mages over 500, now its not uncommon to see every mage near a broker with close to 600. HP is king if you raid, it really boosts the output you can get from Lifeburn.

Lifeburn is only one component of necro raid dps... yes it's nice but it's just icing on the cake.

2. Why are people here picking on erudites? Equally geared I'm sure that one can easily match you in performance... or even out perform you depending on their skill. And I've seen halfling wizzies outperform dark elf wizzies. DE's are supposed to be better, right? WRONG!

It's not how much power or INT or whatever you get but WHAT YOU DO WITH IT that matters.

I know some people just don't like to read but my comments about frogloks being a better necro class are fact. Similarly geared chars a necro with higher HP will do more dmg than one without, its just how the class works now with lifeburn and death pact. Sure the person behind the char determines the better necro. At end game int and power don't mean a whole lot to necros where HP can directly translate into more dps.

I see both points of HP and Int factors in Necro DPS but HP in itself isn't the DPS king.

Lifeburn is only effective if you LIVE otherwise that nice 10 seconds of DPS is lost while you're being rez'd and rebuffing or laying there FD'd.

Larger HP pool combined with proper healing (bolster is fun too and will help the healers keep you up while you're tanking) will increase that spike damage to the point most tanks will loose agro especially with the CC to plant, whereas constant DoT'n (Int pool) will not cause spike damage and your tank will keep control.

You are correct that more base HP that the toon has can increase the DPS zonewide if you are a constant user of Lifeburn and providing the raid you are part of will keep the agro off you.

Food for thought.
