View Full Version : LFM: A simple request

If you are in -- and want to start -- a group and need more players please use the LFG/LFM tool in addition to broadcasting that you are looking for more (LFM) on a level channel (like 20-29, 30-39, etc). I'm sure many of you do this already but I've noticed that many just use one -- or none -- of the above methods.

Why does this matter to me? Sometimes I want to get groups for one of my many (13!) characters, specifically ones that do not solo very well (like my bard, shaman or cleric), but do not want to wait around hoping a group will form (in the case of the bard) or a tank is LFG (in the case of the priests) to form one so I will be soloing or crafting with another character. This character is usually higher level and monitors more than one level channel in the hopes that someone will broadcast that they are LFM so I can play the character I really want to play at that time. Another possibility is that if a lower level group is going somewhere I want to go, usually for AP XP from killing Named monsters, I would be willing to mentor -- if I only knew.

So, if you don't mind inviting strangers to groups and are looking for more please broadcast that you are LFM on a level channel and use the LFG/LFM tool to indicate which classes you want. Who knows? You might really need a healer to go after Varsoon and none are LFG atm but with one broadcast you might just get a tell asking if someone can bring their 70 Defiler (mentored down, of course) to help you out. It's a win-win scenario.

Thanks for listening.

I think the problem is two fold.

1. Players looking for a group, frequently either aren't aware of the fact there's an LFG tool .. or likely don't see it as useful enough to make a point of using it when LFG.

2. Groups looking for players are frequently busy killing stuff when a spot free's up. Most often then not, the person running the group is busy .. well .. running the group, and dosen't have the time to load up the tool and fill out what they're looking for.

Perhaps there would be more use of this tool if there was a popup box when people logged on, asking if they would like to "Look for a group". Alternatively, this popup window could also be displayed when someone drops the group. "Would you like to look for a replacement for _____?"

It would give more visibility to the tool, and encourage people to use it.

brilliant idea! I hope SOE takes a note on that one. One modification to your idea about a propt "Do you want to look for a group":

Instead of popping up right when the player loggs in, it should pop up anytime it sees 'LFG' in the chat window. It already screens for swear words, why not add some code in and screen for LFG if typed in a level chat.
