I understand it has a chance to break when the mob takes dmg but if you do no dmg to the mob, will it always run the fun length of the spell or does it do a check every few seconds and might break the root?

I believe there is a chance that it will break each tick and there is also a power consumption to it so if you run out of power...

I could be wrong - I'm honestly just starting to use it (and am finding it's great)

From my understanding, the root has a 5% chance of being dispelled if the target takes damage. So, if you root a mob and do no damage, it will not break. And there is no power consumption over time associated with Elddar's Grasp, if that was being suggested.

OOC.

Interesting.

The root spells do not cost power over time, of that I am pretty sure.

However, otherwise, my understanding was not the same as that posted above. Even if you do no damage, I thought the mob got a resist check every tick. If you look at the spell description, it gives a modifer chance for spell resisting initially and at each tick.

This is why I have put 5 ranks into Enhance: Enveloping Roots, to reduce the power cost of root, and so that mobs I am keeping rooted, stay darn well rooted *chuckle*.

However, I freely admit I've never actually tested this, so other feedback would be interesting to read.

They changed how roots/mezes worked awhile back (can't remember what update) so that they run through their durations. You have to realize that your root is actually a hostile spell that can trigger procs that you might have on your equipment. Also, our root can be cured by mobs as well. My root is at adept 3 and I can manage it just fine. I usually use my DoT's when the root is back up ready to cast.

Here's a tip. I put my snare icon next to root on hotbar. I cast snare alittle after root so if root breaks, i have some time to cast root again if it is up or run abit until icon is ready. Plus good to up your skill if it is not maxxed.
