View Full Version : Where To Next?
<p>Have been to the caves of vampires in the Bloodline Chronicles, the underground area of the Splitpaw Gnolls for the Splitpaw Saga, and the imense island of Mara in the Fallen Dynasty. My question like the title suggests is where to next in EQ2? What exactly should an adventure pack contain quest, lore, item and experience wise? Also how expansive should it be to make it a true adventure pack? </p>
I believe that there are no plans for future Adventure Packs and that, considering the success of EoF, SOE will concentrate on delivering (major) Expansions <i>once a year</i> plus bonus content in Live Updates (like Neriak/Darklight Woods).

It's been my understanding as well that there will be no more adventure packs like Bloodline or Splitpaw. As for expansions though, I wouldn't be surprised to see the next one be what's left of Odus and Velious. Velious has likely thawed quite a bit, shrinking its overall size to the interior of the continent. Odus... Odus I'm not so sure about. So in terms of original EQ landmasses, we'll probably get the Wakening Lands/Eastern Wastes area back, but who knows what's left of the cities there. We might see what used to be southwestern Antonica, chiefly Rathe Mountains/Lake Rathe (Straits of the Twelve) and whatever the devs decide is left of Odus.

I thought adventuer packs were a bad idea from the start. Splitpaw and Bloodline were mostly out of the way places to go and were mostly put in to make a little money extra and to hope unused places would get used. Sorta like how the lv 20 Armor quests make you go down to the sewars at one point cuz other wise you almost never see any one in the sewars. Any way i never liked them and im glad they are doing a one year expantion cycle because the 6 month cycles wasnt producing very good stuff. I thought DoF was WAY too small to warent an expantion. KoS was much bigger but still kinda light i thought for an expantion. EoF was to me the first True expantion that felt like an expantoin should feel very large new areas. 5 out door zones i think should be the minium of how expantoins should be. Cuz in eq1 exptoins usualy had alot more then 5 outdoor zones. EoF was a step inthe right Direction and I personaly Cant wait for kunark. I've been dieing to return to my home land since playing the eq2 beta.

Oh and to answer where to Next i'm hopeing after Kunark we'll get Velious. Everforst looks really neat with the snow and the crazy crystal looking clear ice in places. I think if they did Velious it could be very nice. And I konw the perfect signaure quest to go along with the the Coldin Shawl. Or how ever you spelled the first part. It was this crazy multi parted quest and at the end of ever part you get a shawl for your shoulders and it got better and better the further you went on it and I think if they had that back as on of the signaure quests that would be very awesome. Oh and it would be cool if they still had the ring war event with the giants and the dwarfs there.

<p>I am hoping that the next big expansion will be the continent of Velious.</p><p>And, I am hoping that it is highly unchanged from the old Velious of EQ1. I know that it would be unlikely that it was unchanged, but what if during the cataclysm, the continent of Velious was some how magically protected by The Sleeper or some God or something. And, instead of it melting away, the entire continent was magically teleported away to another dimension. And, now it has suddenly returned to Norrath.</p><p>The dwarven, giant, and dragon factions would still be there and since they were not effected by the changes on Norrath over the years, they are very powerful now and plotting to overtake all of Norrath.</p><p><span style="font-size: x-large"><span style="color: #cc3300"><b>Choose a side, decide the fate of Norrath...</b></span></span></p>
<p>Wouldn't be surprised if Adventure Packs are done away with since they may create more problems than they are worth. Another thing is how do you compare our "New Updates" to Adventure Packs? Neriak + Darklight Woods + 70 something quests would deffinately be an adventure pack but we got it as an update. Still i'm kinda dissapointed if they decide not to do any more adventure packs since I kinda liked those. </p><p>As for my fav for the next Expansion Pack I would probably want to go somewhere "New" so to speak. Maybe old areas collapsed and reformed during the shattering into a new Continent. This new Continent holds an old race with new secrets to be discovered. </p>

<p>I agree with you Amana. I want to see a new area for the next expansion. 500 years is a long time and some new lands had to of surfaced during that time. Velious and Odus were on the same side of the world, why not add them together in 1 expansion. I would like to see a new land, new to EQ2. I do like revisiting old lands and seeing what the old NPCs have been up to. Like I said though, 500 years a long time and some new things are bound to happen in the world. (Like Kithicor it's all eerie and creepy now. We'll probably never go to it, but what's going on there).</p><p>There is a lot of uncharted ocean out there in the game. I am sure there are more land masses and just the old continents. We just have to find them all. =D</p><p>About the adventure packs. I liked them. Mostly because I got them for free. LoL But they added a bit of lore to the game. At the time they were released I didn't find them to be out of the way, but as the game matured and players advanced, it did seem a bit of a run to go to these zones. The Fallen Dynasty is probably the only one that sees regular action these days. I like the idea of adding new content every so often rather than trying to pitch adventure packs. Reason being, is free stuff keeps peple interested. It gives everyone something to look forward to.</p>

Well, how about we get to explore underground for a bit. We have the Ratonga that we found out about through an epic quest, but we never got to go to their hometown. I know its not as exciting to talk about where rats came from, but there has to be alot going on down there.

Neriaks was deffinately Adventure Pack in proportion and it was delivered via GU which made it sweet. </p><p>Velious + Odus = Veldus the continent of shattered dreams/visions? Wouldn't mind visiting a place like that where you see a merging of 2 archetypes into 1 or 2 side by side to each other. Would be a constant struggle for 1 to exist within the other. </p><p>As for a new continent I have to ask what should it contain? Wouldn't mind seeing a type of "Siren" wasteland where the denizens of the Sea were thrust upon land having to adapt. Could be a giant Citadel like Castle Mistmoore that looks almost like Atlantis with advanced technology almost gnomish yet not. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Odus with lots of underwater zones. I want a reason to use my Hayden's earring darn it! Plus WW's could use the money from selling totems.

I'd vote for Odus, having recently visited EQ1 and seeing all the additional zones they added to it after I left (paineel, the hole, stonebrunt, the warren) I think it could be fleshed out into a full expansion plus maybe we can see more lore on what all happened to the erudite race that turned them from cone headed people in MC Hammer pants into rejects from close encounters of the third kind.

i think the next expansion will be an Underfoot expansion (Stormhold or Subtunaria) or Odus.

Uderfoot and Odus expansion could easily be the same thing. As I recall The Hole was old Paineel (or something) that got blown up (this was also how the Kerrans that became the Vashir got to Luclin if I remeber correctly) and blew a hole into the Underfoot and at the bottom of The Hole (in EQL its been a while though) there was a door to Underfoot that never got implemented.

I really would like to see Velious after Kunark although it would have changed much from EQ1. The dragons will be gone (already got their expansion and lore wies after the sleeper escaped nothing much was left). It probably will be very Giant or Dwarven centric. Anyway, as long they reintroduce the last missing gods I am happy no metter where the expansion takes place.
<p>Thing I would have to ask is what if the devs decided to reintroduce the planes using them as gateways to desolate places like Odus or Velious? Already seen that Gate of Fear in game and when my 35 illusionist approached it the thing said "You must be level 70 to enter." After that I brought my level 70 SK there and it said "This Zone Is Not In Game Yet." </p>

I would have to say I would love to see Velious. Maybe introduce Half Giants as an new race and Introduce 2 new starting citys. Kael for the Half Giants and Coldain Castle for the coldain dwarves. This would be sweet!

I don't think there should again be a new race and city. 5 cities is imo enough (6 if SOE makes it even again). Otherwise the playerbase does spread out too much.

I think Velious is extremely unlikely as it melted, and unlike some I don't see that as meaning ohh the ice melted away I see that as meaning a significant seimic even occurred and the very rock of the continent itself melted and sunk beneath the waves. The mental picture I have of velious is that of Ishtar post Cataclysm in the Dragonlance dnd setting.

<p>I remember a Dev saying some where that only Bits of Velious Melted. The whole contenant wasnt ice so a good bit of it is still there and with the waters calming and new contenants being found its plenty posible parts of velious could be refreezing shapeing the contenant differntly then it was in eq1. As for some on earlier mentioned Luclan being the next expantion I wouldnt mind that and I think it would be rather awesome. I belive there is some one at work on Luclin because of the EoF Lore about how the elf guy sees this figure at the spires and feels the hum of them active agian. The combine spires were shut down when Luclin was invaded. And for the spries to be active once agian something must have happend on Luclin. </p><p>The way i always looked at luclin was that it was like a raido or tv satalite. When you ported you went though the nexus to your desination. Not just from point A to B that is unless you were planing to stop on the nexus it would just be point A to B but if your porting from antoinca to Kunark or something like that i alwasy thought nexus rerouted you to where you needed to go based on the spell you used seeing the nexus is the hub of the combine spires and when luclin was invaded the spires were shut down and now they are active agian. So im pretty sure at least parts of Luclin are inhabitable. </p>

Devs are building up a story here and i'm just wondering what they have in store for Odus/Velious if they release them like so many beg for. I'm also curious to see player reactions if they decide to release the planes associated with each diety in the game thus far.

<p>It's entirely plausible that Velious remains mostly frozen. Velious was eternally frozen by divine means and Veeshan was not a part of the godly council that withdrew it's power and influence from Norrath as she was never a true god of the lesser, mortal races. Velious has always belonged to Veeshan and unless Veeshan relinquishes it or another god takes it from her (like Tunare was attempting) than I can see it remaining relatively unaltered from a geological standpoint. From a political standpoint, with the withdrawal of Brell Serillis and Rallos Zek, I can see the Coldain, Kromrif, and Kromzek quickly getting beaten back by the Claws of Veeshan. With the dwarves and giants in decline I could also see Tserrina Syl'Tor quickly rising in power, perhaps subjagating the drachnids and enslaving the Ry'Gorr. Velketor's influence could spread as well. I could see armies of Icepaws and Velium golems taking the Great Divide away from the Coldain. Velketor's Labyrinth and the Tower of Frozen Shadow would make great high end heroic instances in the same vein as Unrest. Skyshrine, Dragon Necropolis, and the Temple of Veeshan would make great raid zones. Thurgadin, Crystal Caverns, and Kael Drakkal would all be great contested dungeons.</p><p>The power questions is: "How does Kerafyrm factor into the Story of Velious?"</p>

<p>Wow, I didn't think anyone else wanted to see Odus again. Velious and Odus are both good places to go and I am sure before EQ3 is in production, both will be revisited.</p><p>For the next Expansion, I would like to see Odus with and some additional old world zones. </p><p>From Odus: Ruins of Erudin (name of Erudites city I think); Hole, Paineel, Warren's, Stoneburnt Mts, Kerra Isle, Erud's Crossing</p><p>From Old World: Rathmountains/Lakerathtear/South Karana as a string of isles, High Hold Keep (Corp HQ for High Seas Trading Comp), Innothule Swamp, Ruins of Guk and Gukta. </p><p>Lots of potential for them. </p>
Velious Information for everyone <b>History of Vellious</b> Before recorded time, Veeshan, the great Crystalline Dragon marked Norrath by striking the continent of Velious with her foreclaw, and deposited her brood there to dwell. The legends of that time also tell that Veeshan blasted Velious with her breath, encasing it in eternal ice and creating a barrier of deadly ice flows and stormy weather. This marked the beginning of the Age of Scale. Taken from <a href="http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read_search.php?link=sov_history&word=Velious" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read_sea...mp;word=Velious</a> Also From the History of Humans book. At first, the rumblings of the mountains and the changes in the sea were thought to be simple anomalies. As the years passed, it was clear that an Age of Cataclysms had befallen Norrath. The Cataclysms were of all types: earthquakes, flooding, and the <b>inconceivable melting of velious</b>. The seas became too treacherous to travel and many parts of the world began to collapse into the caverns of Subtunaria during this time of Rending. Taken from <a href="http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read_search.php?link=race_human&word=velious" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read_sea...mp;word=velious</a> ---------- So Velious was a continent covered in ice before it was melted. However If as I recall things were carved out of the ice, there won't be a lot left.
