If your using XP I would just stick with that.Vista has (not for everyone) so many problems not just running EQ2 but other games also I would just wait until its all figured out.And it will be Im sure since its the new OS.But at this time its not really worth the headaches you might have if you switch.

I'm using Vista. I have home basic on one computer (Just bought it) and Ultimate onthe other (Will be upgrading the basic to ultimate tonight ^_~) I personally LOVE Vista. But then again, I'm not an average user. When you first launch it, you will be amazed by how many features it has, it's simply wonderful. I recommend not bothering if you have less than 1.5 - 2 Gig's of ram.

Currently run multiple machines under vista, regularly 2 box eq, eq2 on the vista boxes(have even 3 boxed on a Vista machine, although that is painful). have upgraded the kids machine to Vista aso, have some issues with the older educational games that are designed for DX5 and below but have have shifted those to Virtual PC 2007 (comes with Vista Ultimate as a optional download), even have Dora the Explorer World Adventure running on the Vista box. running Vista Ultimate 32 bix across 5 machines, my 6th will not handle Vista, but ithas been converted to a MS Home Server box and is working fine.

Vista + Nvidia = Broken EQII

I can barely run EQII anymore ever since Worg mount patch. I suspect it has something to do more with how EQII is coded than with my Nvidia driver itself. I can play dozens of other new and old games that are more intensive than EQII and I should be able to play EQII on max settings but I can't. My machine crawls during combat when I'm in groups with other people. It also doesn't render NPCs as soon as it should. Basically, I have lag rendering stuff thanks to Vista.

There is nothing good about Vista that XP can't already do. Almost anything "new" in Vista is a custom UI mod/shell for XP. I'm running Vista Home Premium x32, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ ~ 2.4GHz, 3070 RAM, and Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT. I have the most current drivers listed on the Nvidia site for my graphics card. My setup was running perfectly a few months ago, before Unrest patch. I took a break after Unrest patch, returned on Worg mount patch day, and basically can't play EQII in groups anymore.

If you like EQII, stay away from Vista. Especially since you don't have an ATI card.

All video cards in my systems are Nvidia, would not own a ATI i I was given the top en ATI video card for every machine I own.

It is up to the manufacturer of the laptop to release the customized reference driver for their laptops. Unfortunately most laptop manufacturers drop the original release of the video driver and then move on to working on the release for next killer laptop they planon releasing. Depending on the base chipset, there are 3rd party sites out there that modify the .inf files of the driver insalls to work on the laptop chipsets, although use them at your own risk and make sure you have a restore point/backup of the system before installing
