I played eq2 for over a year on this PC. Recently I resub'd and found the game performing extremely poor, especially while zoning. Before I left for a few months I would zone faster than the normal person, usually wait on them to zone in before progressing. Now I take 20+ seconds to zone and occationally will drop to character select. Generally it is hanging up on UI resources and zone info. Even chat sometimes lags. I can't figure it out. Here is some info:

-PC Spec has not changed.

-UI has not changed. 100% default UI.

-No changes to programs running while playing.

Not sure whats up. 2 gig of Ram - x1950 Pro vid card.

Any suggestions?

I believe it has something to do with your raw internet connection speed. I have a fairly slow PC compared to several members of my Guildmates and yet if we zone together I almost always end up waiting for them. If you think about it when you zone the server has to update the client with details of the state of the zone you are entering. If the download speed of your connection is slow then it takes longer to receive that update. One thing to remember is that unless you pay your cable/DSL company for a guarenteed data rate then your throughput will varry depending on the loading of your local network segment ie, you share your connection with your neighbours. When we first moved in here we were the only ones using the DSL offered by the complex. It was at that time blindingly fast but as other people moved in or decided to buy broadband we saw our throughput drop. Since we do web development from home I ponyed up for a cable modem and a guarenteed minimal bandwith (ie though my connection may be faster it will never be slower than what I pay for.) It could be that if you took the standard minimum package from your local internet provider then as more people add broadband to their service you are getting less and less of the available bandwidth hence things are slower now than they were when you left.

I think it is our Router. Anyone know how to adjust a Dunex DxE401 router to help EQ2 data incoming?

Not all routers are equal from a throughput standpoint. When we upgraded the wireless network to 802.11g we went through 3 routers before we found one that worked for us. One had stability issues and would go LD for no good reason, one had poor throughput for wireless and one needed rebooting periodically just to give good throughput. You might want to research different types of router available and see how yours compares.

Changed out our router to the spare Linksys. Everything seems fine now.
