View Full Version : Neriak - Travel Facilities - not in the game?

Wandered around Neriak and noticed that there no travel facilities to other zones as in Freeport. Did they just leave them out or could I just not find them? Makes living in the city rather useless if you have to go to Freeport or the Nek Docks to travel.

The carpet to Sinking Sands is in Darklight woods. There is a porter that will port you from neriak to the spires in nek forest also (dont know where its at). But yah know its kind of hard to travel by boat when your underground .

If you took the time to read the dialogue from NPCs in Neriak, you'd find out what the dock was meant for, how boats used to get to it, and why it currently has no boat traffic. You can port to both Nektulos Forest and Thundering Steppes from inside the building nearest to the dock.

Travel to Nek or Thundering Steppes for 60sp.

I assume that's true of TS as well.

I have to admit, I do get what the OP is saying, when I lived in Freeport I could grab a carpet to SS or ring a bell and go to the Nektulos docks, or TS docks. Now that I live in Neriak I can get ported to the Nektulos spires or TS spires, and then have to run to the docks in either of those zones instead of being able to use the dock bells on the docks in those zones to go to the next zone I am heading for. Gotta love time sinks. As far as the SS carpet goes, having it in Darklight makes as much sense there as it would for them to move it from inside of Freeport to the Commonlands Crossroads or to that little cabin in Antonica....kinda crappy imho...But I suppose we do get the coolest looking houses in Neriak to make up for it, huh?

The travel problem is disappointing, but for me, it's most disappointing because the T7 crowd absolutely will not move there on a PvP server (Nagafen) because it leaves you too vulnerable to being ganked. Those Nek Spires are camped and if you try to go to the Nek docks from there, you're likely to be Swashified. From my perspective, I LOVE the housing, it's just soo cool , but since nobody wants to live there (travel problems) it's very hard to make enough money there to justify living there. I've definitely taken a huge monetary hit from moving from Freeport to Neriak.

I understand, Queen of Neriak wants it isolated, so the carpet to Sinking Sands is in Darklight Woods ... but it could be closer to the Neriak entrance I'd think. The mode of Dark Elf travel is teleporters, so it makes sense to teleport to the Spires ... but you could easily install a teleporter on the Docks too I'd think.

I don't actually know the info about the Docks inside Neriak ... so feel free to PM it to me if anyone has the time. Hopefully those docks will take us to the Nek/TS docks soon enough ... and hopefully to the Sinking Sands dock/bridge thingie as well ... heck, magic ships ... makes sense to me.

Yes, Dark Elves travel via teleporters (at least they do in New Neriak) but ah have not heard of any work on the TS/Nek docks to build a teleportation receiver, that's why it sends you to the spires in TS/Nek (the reason the bells in QH/EFP send you to the docks is because that's where the boat from Q/FP drops you off)

I am guessing the reason for putting the carpet to SS in Darklight Woods is to make it comparable to Kelethin, where you have to run all the way to the Butcherblock docks in order to catch a carpet. It does put both cities at a disadvantage, travel wise, to Freeport and Qeynos. Maybe that is intentional, to keep people living in the older cities or something.

There are times when the spires are more preferable than the docks so it's hard to say which is 'better'. (of course I'm not on a pvp server and haven't really considered any of those problems)

Fortunately for classes with an evac ability they can go to TS, evac, and find themselves at the docks.

I kinda see the travel capability of the game as a matter of balance. True, Q and FP have quick and easy Dock/SS access, but we still have to hoof it if we wanna get to the spires for KoS. And we still have to walk quite a ways if we want to get to any of the EoF zones other than right there in BB. (I love running Unrest, but hate walking to it, even tho it IS right there in BB LoL). Neriak on the other hand: REALLY easy spire/KoS access, relatively easy SS access (carpet pretty close in Darklight), and decent Docks access via Griffon quests to take from spires to 'fairly' near the docks, and THEN onto EoF, close to same as Q and FP in reality. When RoK comes, I see the Neriak docks being THE easiest way to get to Kunark, very likely so. Followed by BB docks as far as ease-of-use is concerned. Kelethin: REALLY easy EoF zones access. I mean, c'mon, nearly EVERY zone connects to Gfay, and Lfay is a breeze to get through. Docks access is kinda lame, gotta walk through BB, which some people really seem to be bothered by. But it's minor inconvenience. Docks and SS access are really the same. Where I personally think Kel needs help, is spire/KoS access. even MORE walking involved there. But, I REALLY think this will even out in the future. They will VERY likely have THE easiest access to Luclin, when it comes out... Anyone else notice the moon, slowly going back together over the months/years? It used to be across the ENTIRE sky, now, it seems to be repairing... The ancient spires that are still in tact in Gfay near steamfont zone just REEK of mystery I think good things are coming. BTW, as to the Docks in Neriak being land-locked and not housing any boats: if you look out from the pier, you'll notice a 'gate'. This is a magical portal to an identical gate. a Sea-Gate, if you will. This will probably be a DIRECT link to Kunark. Overall, I think travel is fairly balanced, if you consider all expansions. Some have it easier, some harder. No one should be able to instantly click into WHATEVER zone they want tho, other than druids and wizards, the cheatin' porters

I forsee travel to the spires being made easier in eof by the addition of a kos spire or two being placed in EoF zones. this would also make it easier to travel to eof via kos zones. These changes I imagine will be made well in advance of any new 'luclin' expansion. I would daresay luclin is another few expansions down the road at least.

Of note for future Neriak port options: in addition to the Sea Gate (and hopefully players will be able to participate in building other Sea Gates), there is a malfunctioning teleportation hub in the Dark Bargainers Hall. Personally, my money's on that for the Kunark portal.

I noticed something on Live this weekend..

The carpet in SS, gives you an option now, where it didn't before, as a Neriak Citizen...to fly to Freeport or Darklight Woods....

Easy access to Freeport for anyone that has Sinking Sands

I'm fairly sure that Kunark will be boat travel just as Faydwer is. There is a quest for the Sea Gate in Neriak but doesn't seem to do anything besides give some lore.

Well........imho.......Neriak is one of the most travel friendly zones to come out in an expansion. Next to Qeynos and Freeport, there is no easier way to get around. If you moved to Maj'Dul, well you took the carpet to SS and then zoned from there (not too bad). But holy cow, don't ever live in Kelethin if you want to talk about travel. These people have to run across the complete GFay zone and then accross the complete BB zone just to get to a carpet (which is located on BB Docks). Furthermore, try going to Nek Forest or Thundering Steppes from Kelethin. Again....run across two entire zones just to get to a boat and wait up to 5 minutes, then take a boat ride, then pray you are not going to KoS.......cause then you have to wait up to 5 minutes on the spires ;(

Going to the spires works very well from Neriak if you are in the KoS zones. Heck you go directly to them. Kelethin.......we don't even have spires that will take us to KoS (kinda stupid imo).

So, if you want to fix somebody's ability to travel.........place a carpet to SS in Kelethin, Activate the Spires in Gfay to KoS, and give us flying butterflies or something to move across GFay and BB faster so we can get to Nek Forest and TS without taking forever. I honestly don't feel that anybody has a right to complain about travel until they have a toon in Kelethin and actually have to run across multiple zones just to get where everybody else can go in one single bound

Why? The GFay Spire was linked to The Nexus, just be greatful Sorcerers can use the spires at all

Well, they didn't have carpets to the sands and/or teleportation in Neriak (that I recall). So where is the Nexus and the grand Bazaar that goes with it? Bah, this is less about Lore and more about convenience to the community already. Anybody recall griffons? didn't think so.

Not saying that they should pull away from the lore to ruin things for those that love the lore.......just find a way to be a bit more equal on the travel friendly abilities of home cities and surrounding zones. They nerf the heck out of toons to create a balance and insure that no one toon has a huge benefit over another. So why should they let entire communities be unbalanced in thier ability to traverse the areas?

Well, doesn't matter, this will become a battle over Lore and Functionality soon ;P LOL
