View Full Version : First person display a la EQ 1?

I'm trying to figure out how (if at all) it is possible to show the first person mode equivalent to how first person in EQ 1 looks. What I want to have, is while in first person mode, is to be able to see "my" arms with weapons striking down the opponent--as is the case in EQ 1 (at least from 4 years ago, when I quit EQ 1). I find that the game is far more enjoyable seeing the avatar do something, as opposed to the click-and-wait-for-impact first person mode I have currently. As a note, I do use the mouse scroll wheel to change between the first person and behind-the-avatar view. Thanks in advance.

While in first person view you do not get to see anything on you or any action you do. No sword swinging.

So you're telling me most people use the 3rd person view? From reading posts, there are crowd control classes similar to the enchanter in EQ1 (which I had played in EQ1); and it's not entirely clear to me how it would be easier to target and mez from a 3rd person view? Is it really better, or do people deal with not being able to see anything in first person view? Just one more question: is it easier to solo in EQ2 with most classes, as compared to EQ1? EQ1 was basically meant to not be soloed at all; however an adept player with proper buffs could do it (at least when i stopped playing around PoP). WoW was great in that everyone, regardless of level, could solo. Is it similar here? Thanks.

I cannot play the game in 1st person view anymore. I'm far too used to the "peripheral" vision given by 3rd person. I only go into 1st person when I want a close look at something. As a tank I am constantly observing our group's surroundings for potential adds and such. This often requires spinning my camera around. This cannot be done in 1st person due to the target facing lock. Every class in EQ2 can solo to some degree. Some are better than others, which is to be expected.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it sounds like it..

I do everything in 3rd person with the exception of swimming.

Soloing: Any class in EQ2 can solo. Some do it better than others. But if you learn your class well, read your ability/spell descriptions and practice with them, you can learn strategies to solo on any class/race combo.

ok guys, you are gonna be surprised by this (i know i was when i stumbled on it) but somewhere in the ui settings there is an option where when in 1st person mode you can look down and see your feet, you can see yourself swinging you weapons, if you get knocked down you actually go flying and fall on your back and your view changes accordingly (its actually a bit dizzying). If you have certain helmets on it may look a little weird, like with the wizard hat you can see the brim of the hat and it kind of gets in the way, but mostly this a really cool little known setting.

I'll have to look for that. I've been playing in 1st person a lot lately. I like "feeling" like I'm really as short as I am; and it's sometimes handy to see past my wings, lol! In group combat, I either position myself so I can get a wide view, far back in 3rd person view, or I put it in first person so I can try to see around the big oaf in front of me. But I *do* miss the peripheral vision.

Thank you all for the thoughtful replies! I was so used to the first person mode in EQ1, that I tried using that in WoW, but soon realized that the third person mode was easier. The third person mode in EQ1 was terrible, and it was far easier to use first person in that game--and never had a problem as a crowd controller. I assumed it was similar here, but the control in the third person isn't as easy as in WoW (hard to explain). If there is indeed a UI setting, I'll look more closely for it under the "options" menu in-game.

Its actually in the control menu under the options, you can check where it will render the character and also pitch the camera up and down during combat. Personally, I just have it render the character in first person as the pitching can make you very disoriented what with it going up and down every time the monster moves. I just wish you could set it to render the character in first person while not in combat.

Oh btw i forgot to mention all that first person stuff is while in combat.
