Well, not that I don't have any money, but I don't have piles and piles of plat on another character waiting to send over and twink. I've got a Wizzy (9) and I'm looking for information on what to equipment is good. Basically, what would I shoot for by 20, 30 etc? As a starting player I see reference to great gear... if you can afford it, but I can't see a way to get it... unless I can craft it. I'm planning on taking the Sage route with tradeskills too... or is that a bad idea? Yeah, I need help.

Do the quests in whichever area you started in and you will get reasonable gear 'til 20. If you want to spoil your wizzy, start harvesting roots now, then when you hit 20 go to thundering steppes and harvest until you find rare roots. You'll need at least 7 if you want to fully kit yourself out in mastercrafted armour, and once you've found them you'll need to find a level 29+ tailor to make you a set of tranquil cloth. That should keep you going 'til 32, where you can do the same..

I've got all the basic tradeskill books up to 9th level. Would it be a good idea to make myself anything from those recipes? I couldn't see anything that was particularly huge on the scale over what I made at the newb zone, but it would only cost me fuel at this point since I seem to be overflowing with gathered stuff...

From memory I levelled my Wizard into the 20's and just used gear from quest rewards, once you hit the 20's you can start a series of Armour Quests which will give you a full set (minus helm). The first couple of quests are soloable but then you will need a group to complete the later quests. This gear should suffice until you hit the 30's from what I remember then just save for Mastercrafted in each tier and get friendly with a tradeskilling tailor.

good post above ^^. Also once you get your armour set, no need to get MC gear in 30s. You can once again quest for the gear!! Complete all the quests in EL and you will get once again an almost full set, also many quests give jewellry pieces, especially good pieces come from Augurs stationed in Nektulos, Zek and EL. Then at higher levels you can run RE, RoV and CT for legendary gear.
