View Full Version : How do you use the new macro system? (Ideas/Suggestions)

With the new macro system, I was wondering what kind of macros people are using.

Here's a couple macros I use...

Pet Macro I like this one for toons with multiple pets. Unlike many people (or so it seems) I don't want all my pets named after myself, or to have the same name. This macro takes care of that.

The first command line is /petname Jared (or whatever name you want that pet to be called). Second line of the macro is the skill that summons the pet.

Rinse and repeat for each of your pets. Then each time you run the macro it will rename your pet appropriately before summoning it.

Harvest macro (Discuss here) This macro incorporates Mining, Foresting, Gathering, and Trapping, all into one. It auto-targets the node (assuming a mob isn't closer), equips your harvesting tools, and re-equips your regular equipment when it's done. If you don't want the macro to auto-target for you, remove the first command line, and be sure you target the node before running the macro. There was some speculation wether this would work, due to how the macros execute. I tested it repeatedly using Sandalwood tools (shaves 2 seconds off harvest times). Harvesting without a tool took 5 seconds. I tested this macro on stone, ore, shrub, root, wood, and dens...3 harvests from each. Each time the harvest took 3 seconds, so it seems to be working correctly regardless of what node you are targeting, and what skill/tool is required.

If you having problems with the macro, I'd suggest checking out the original post here. There are all sorts of posts from people who were able to resolve their issues. Myself, I've not had a problem with it on any of the toons I use it on, and neither have any of my guildmates.

I just wish I could make a pet macro for my Deity pet with /pet hide at the end... however this does not work because the command to hide the pet goes off before the spell is finished casting so it fails /sigh.

I'm not all for the new macro system since your limited to just 2 spells to use in it, but it doesn't mean you can't create some useful things.

On my Brigand I made a couple of macros to help me out. First one does my ranged stun attack then my speed reduction/cold debuff ability. After that I have a Macro made and I first do cheapshot then go behind them using pickpocket/shiv *thinks that's it*. My last macro I stun the enemy then use the macro which has rake and 1 more flanking/behind attack on it.

Takes some time getting used to, but it's a powerful combination that allows me to pull off some wicked damage. My brigand isn't as strong as my assassin was at 27, but he's dang near close to it.

As for suggestions for macros I say couple together abilities that you want to use. A good one for Wizards would probably be your Concusive ability + dmg enhancer ability you get with AAs. After those to go off use any spell you want which is enhanced and will decrease your hate with your enemy. Heck you could do your concussive ability along with your hate/stifle spell for double the damage.

I was hoping this would turn into a hot post containing a bunch of different, creative ideas for useful macros. No other suggestions?

Wanted to create one for my Assassin, but as said it didn't work out. Love the macros on my brigand though with the only complain being the macroed abilities won't fire off correctly at times. Usually it's me hitting another ability cancelling out the 2nd one on the macro.

I use a couple, but only one isn't really specific to my class. I like the harvesting macro (I really like that it seems to actually work so thanks for posting it.

All my macros are really simple, so I won't post anything line by line. I use one to switch between my fighting clothes and traveling clothes (gotta look good on my Warg), and is simply a series of /equip with /showcloak and /showhelm which allows me to re-click the same button to switch that setting.

The others are conjuror-specific for the most part - one (which requires two clicks because of the mechanics) equips my pet-heal staff and then uses the ability; another which summons a mod rod and uses a mod rod (this one works because the item can be used from inventory); and lastly one that is a self heal (AA ability).

I will offer one,

Necro:

Lines: 1. /pet attack 2. consumption <- pet buff that does extra damage when up 3. Death Rot <- Quick and almost always my first damage spell I cast

I got tired of clicking the button to send my pet, then clicking Consumption, and then finnally start attacking.

Lines: 1. /pet dismiss 2. /Pet name 3. summon pet 4. /pet backoff <- God send, was tired of my pet running off everytime an aoe gets off during pull, also putting me in attack mode near the cloud stations.

Lines: 1. Informing player of a heart coming their way 2. Casting heart

Brig: Like mentioned above Lines: 1. Pickpocket 2. Shiv? the 30 sec attack from behind, just so happens to be the same timmer as pick pocket.

Lines: 1. Dispatch 2. Informing raid of the mit decrease Love this one(/r He is wounded, mit decreased, Make him bleed!)

Pally: Pull macro

Amends Macro Telling the group/raid who has amends on.

Lots of people use macros in PvP, they just don't want to post about it so they can act like they don't use any 'easy button' tactics.

The ones I use are the same pet ones for my deity pet, and one for Transmuting to pop off the 2 reacts, even though there's nothing to actually react to. I tried using them for tradeskilling, but [Removed for Content] myself more often than not.

Mostly macros I was already using to tell group/raid/recipient of important information, but now only need one hot bar for them instead of one hotbar for the macro, and another beside it so I could see when the spell was refreshed.

Only have one macro around atm - Jester's Cap on x. I swapped out my ultra-mind numbingly boring ranger for an interestung troub. I never bothered with any macros for my useless Ranger anyway.

Anybody know how to unequip an item using the macro commands? (i.e. have nothing in the slot rather than swapping for another item)

The new macro changes have just made it easier for me to make, I still just use the basic cast a spell and and text the group what im doing(for mezzes, mana flow, etc) but ive never gotten into creative macroing.
