Well, I can't run a poll, but I think this is very interesting... Was one of the most famous martial artists of our times the equivalent of an EQ2's Monk or the Bruiser?

Nah Bruisers don't lay on the floor putting armbars on mobs for the majority of the fights... :p

In addition to being a dedicated martial artist, Bruce Lee was also an instructor and philosopher. Definitely more in-line with the image of a monk than a bruiser, though I'm unsure if either would really, truly apply.

If you are referring to which fighting style he used, Id also have to say monk. IMO Monks use speed as their main weapon, while Bruisers use strength.

I look at monks as martial artists, while Bruisers are more like bare knuckle boxers.

A Monk fights because he has to, a Bruiser fights because he wants to

definitely a monk. Basically because for 1 ive never heard of a bruiser outside of a game. And 2 monks use all that spiritual enlightenment which bruce lee trained as. Also heres some fighting between lee and chuck (second movie clip down from the top) http://www.wired.com/entertainment/...3/bruce_lee0323 What the hell is up with chuck? He part werewolf to?

Budha as a bruiser... man that is alot of fat swaying in the wind! I'd run from that.

Wing Chun was the style that he started with under one of the best masters in Hong Kong. He revolutionized the martial arts back then with his Jeet Kune Do, which happens to be the founding principles for modern day MMA, like UFC, Pride...you name it. Bruce was a streetfighter bound by no rules. Never compare a practical martial art with fighters bound by rules and referees. Besides, he and Chuck were friends and sparring partners. Chuck was the one that gave Bruce the idea about kicking above the waistline, Wing Chun only uses low kicks. He even gave Chuck his first role in a movie. The world may never again see the likes of a Bruce Lee again... a human with one goal; perfection in body and mind. Oh and on topic, I vote for the monk

Just thought I'd point out that the UFC are actually pretty neat, in that they demonstrate how actual fighting is done. Martial arts, such as Kung Fu, were not designed primarily as a form of combat, that merely came about due to the need for self-defense when faced with governments who didn't agree with their lifestyles (mostly the not paying taxes part). Many martial arts focus on a specific set of techniques to the exclusion of others, rather like the way Tae Kwon Do emphasizes kicks. However, when it comes down to it, pretty much any real fight eventually hits the ground. I'd say Bruce Lee is a monk who later betrayed to bruiser. He was trained as a monk, but chose to abandon the mystical views of martial arts for a more practical, physical emphasis. He is much like an Ashen Disciple in this way.

Even ufc wouldn't fit to a bruiser imo, look at their rules, gues bruiser rules would even encourage the forbidden stuff well even some attack names are clearly forbidden by ufc rules

The man was an amazing athlete and one of the greatest martial artists, if not the greatest in recent history.

The closest thing i've ever seen in a movie that could be considered a bruiser is in Ong bak, the bar fighter "Mad Dog".

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...eoID=1224174207

The 3rd fighter is maddog, although the first guy is kinda bruiserish too!

THAT is how a bruiser would fight(minus the loosing part =P)!
