Anyone switch from Cable modem to DSL? I am thinking of changing, but want to see if DSL will be slower. Also, what about WI-FI? Anyone using that or hear of any pro's and con's?

Thanks for the input!

From a raw speed standpoint, Cable is faster than DSL in terms of pure theoretical maximum performance. However, caps imposed by your local cable provider and other factors such as congestion in your area, head-end configurations or QoS tiers can negate some or all of the advantages. The bottom line is that cable is faster as a medium, but depending on how your local cable company is managed in your area, the advantage over DSL can be negligible. In my opinion just go with the communications package that best fits your budget and roll with it.

I switched from cable modem (Adelphia) to DSL (BellSouth) a few months ago. Just as solid, just as stable and when playing the game, just as fast.

We just switched from DSL to calbe and have noticed internet surfing is much faster, however gaming has some lag we haven't noticed before. We will probally be switching back at the end of our service contract.

/agree with what Stugein said.

I have had both Comcast cable modem and BellSouth DSL recently. I switched from cable modem because I was sick of the service being down so much. In my area, the DSL service is noticeably faster than the cable modem service was, and I have had very minimal service interruptions. From my experience, your performance will not be adversely affected, and may actually be slightly better.

As for wireless, I currently use a D-Link Extreme G setup (several years old I know, but it works for me), and I have never run into issues with EQ2. Just make sure you put your access point somewhere where you have a decent signal and you'll be fine. However, I would definitely suggest implementing some form of WPA security (WEP is too easy to break) on your access point - most modern ones that I know of support WPA security.

I've had both Qwest 1.5 dsl and Comcast's 9 meg. Both are very good and havent had any problems at all with either. In terms of online gaming I saw no difference between the two companys. But when it comes to downloads, comcast pulls slightly ahead with the average speed being from 250kb up to 1 meg a sec, while with Qwest, highest I got was 160kb. I would go with Qwest as it is usually cheaper however its not available in all areas.
