So I have this brand new computer with all the bells and whistles and I want to load my favorite Sci-Fi and Fantasy online games (EQ2 and SWG). So I spend all night loading SWG and patching it and it works great.

So the next night I start with EQ2. So I load in ALL 9 disks and start the launch pad up and it starts to update. This is where the problem turns up. It scans all the files like normal, then says scan complete. The little play/updating button stays in update and never changes.........ever. So I think, hum (yes, that's right, hum) so I right click on the short cut icon and select properties and make sure it is running in XP2 compatibility mode and as an administrator. It is, so I try again.......no joy. Then I think, "Well, I did buy the retail version of Desert of Flames. Maybe I need to load that too (although, I secretly know that I don't)." So I try that and guess what? Yup, still no joy. At this point I am growing frustrated and just remove the whole program and try again a few days later. (Yes, I saw 28 day and I know the definition of insanity) but what the heck right? If I was sane I would not be playing these games anyway.

Blah, blah, blah, install complete, still no joy. After all of this, which was cathartic by the way, I was wondering......anyone else run into this or maybe have a solution?

Please post something constructive or at least something witty, not snarky like ".....don't play SOE games...." or comments of that nature as they reeeaaaaallllllyyyyyy don't help matters.

I know, I know; I said it so someone will post it anyway.

Thanks in advance

Vista's "Are you sure you want to run... are you really sure?" Dialogs arent being evil Make sure that it is indeed running as administrator

If you are having problems with Station client/launcher, here are some suggestions that may help you resolve your problem. 1. Make sure that your system clock is reporting the correct time/date/year. Any inaccuracies here will be reflected in the checksum files and mislead the patcher into redownloading them over and over, (this is also known to be a cause of keymappings resetting). 2. Please make sure that you have no viruses or spyware. Both AdAware and Spybot are excellent programs. For free anti-virus, you can use the following http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ 3. After you complete a "regular" scan, please immediately run a complete file scan. Sometimes this will catch a few files that the regular scan somehow missed. 4. Make sure that the game directory is not set to READ ONLY. Also make sure that the files within the directory are not set to READ ONLY. 5. Also I'd suggest that try disabling the firewall, and antivirus software if they are installed. Make sure you are not running any programs on your windows taskbar. If the problem persist you should try running your system under a clean boot as this will prevent any hidden programs from loading. To disable background programs: 1. Select the START button. 2. Select RUN. 3. Type in "msconfig" [without the "] 4. Press OK 5. Select the STARTUP tab. 6. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use WindowsXP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list. 7. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again. In case the issue still persists please post your connection information also the msinfo as specified on the link.

Glenn, the patcher issue goes WAY beyond the stock answer you guys have. There is a serious problem going on, and its not related to vista, firewalls, or anything else on our computers. It's on your end. Call the network admins.
