View Full Version : Thinking about leaving EQ2.... what is fun for you in EQ2?
Hi all, i've been in a bit of a struggle lately gaming wise Lately I log on to EQ2, knowing that there are so many things i can do at any given time when i'm on my character. But.... is it fun? Alot of it seems like work and time-wasting. I do love the pvp action but it tends to be way unfair as far as the programming. So that's kind of why I have been playin an old favorite lately, Planetside, an MMO with pretty much instant ACTION (which i equate to fun) every time i log in. It's that in EQ, it seems as though you have to really WORK to experience the true FUN. I dunno maybe it's just something nostalgic Please restore my faith... what do you personally find FUN in this game? Maybe i'm just overlooking the exciting and fun experiences in the game... so I don't want to leave it without know what i'd be missing out on... Well till then i will playing Planetside (yes SoE owns my soul! =P)

i dig eq2 because of the large amount of content/areas to explore. But the big thing for me is the quality of the community. I have yet to see players making obnoxious statements in gen chat , tells, or groups. I doubt anyone really counts this as a mark of quality in an mmorpg- but its huge to me. i see/hear enough hateful stuff in RL, i dont need to see it carry over into my game time too. just answering your question, but my suggestion- go w/ the flow. if you re burned out on this game move on to what interest you. there's really no reason to 'force' yourself to like it. games are for fun. i'd bet you'll end up re subbin after you ve had a few months of a break. GL- happy gaming

You could try starting a new character on a non pvp server and lock your combat xp and level soley on quest exp. You could also try: House decorating, crafting, grouping, or quests. Im not really much help though.
Lately I just log in to chat with the guildies or check if there are any pickup raids going on and maybe do OoB once in a while. Still need the boots for my swashy, 25 runs so far without luck. So, yeah, I'm kinda bored the content EQ2 have to offer for me in a non raiding guild but I still enjoy chatting with the guildies and do some quests once in a while with some alt. It prolly will end up taking a break to do something else but I'll definatly will be back for RoK if there wont be any new cool stuff for T7 coming soonish.

I took a break when LotRO came out, reduced my sub and broadened my MMO playing. I now play LotRO, EQ2 and DDO. Since I play EQ2 a little less and had a bit of a break I'm enjoying the game a bit more.

If you need the community to conveince you to stay with the game that is the tell tale sign its time for you to take a break. Play some other games.

What I like is being able to group with my friends I have met on here. Going to instances with them and having a blast. I also like it when I want to go solo some quest I can. There are so many things that I can do that is why I like the game. Like others say maybe you just need a break from the game. I have taken 2 6months breaks and it helps a bunch. The game will still be here if you want to come back.

Harassing the plat sellers is always fun.

Create a character in the Queens Colony or the Overlords new area, and look for them. You can tell who they are by their names, and that they just stand there where they were created.

I find them, and then go stand in the middle of them and jump up & down. Always a good time.

The two reasons I play this game are:

Raiding is fun. I love the idea of 23 other people getting together to overcome a difficult foe.

Trying to overcome heroic mobs and quests solo, without a group of any kind.

The main thing is that I like to try to push the envelope. I like to try to do something that I'm not supposed to be able to do. Even if it's something silly like soloing a named heroic on the newbie island, or soloing Nest or Acadechism.

One night, my guild busted out the level 55 - 70 alts then went and cleared Labs - I had a blast two boxing my baby necro and warlock, topping the parse list and dying a lot from someone's alt tank not holding agro.

When I want to log in and start slaughtering stuff, I bust out my baby SK, wearing mastercrafted armor that she made herself using raws that she harvested herself, using Adept III spells made by my sage, jewelery from my jeweler, weapons from my weaponsmith, food/drink from my provisioner, potions from my alchemist, bags/hex dolls from my tailor.

There is a level of satisfaction in playing the game the way it is supposed to be played - doing quests, venturing into dungeons, tradeskills, discovering game lore - that makes the game fulfilling and entertaining even after 3 years.

Personally I enjoy just talking to other people, not even role playing just getting to know people in my groups...I find more pleasure in that than I ever did in killing anything.
EQ2 is very break friendly if you aren't obsessed with loot. Everything you leave will still be there when you come back. For months I haven't logged on more than three hours a week and that won't change until RoK. I basically just shiny collect for my Sarnak and talk to people. I may be the most ghetto, rot loot end game assassin there is but I have a great life. I wouldn't trade doing other things that I enjoy for 300 or so more DPS. In the end it's a hobby and I understand that people play certain ways or for certain lengths of time for a variety of reasons but in all honesty EQ2 isn't life. It isn't work. If it isn't fun anymore then drop it for something else that's more important or something that you actually enjoy doing. In all honesty when I read these boards I see some of the most jaded and miserable players that I have ever seen in any other MMO I played. So don't become them. If Planetside is more fun then spend your free time there. There isn't any reason you have to lose contact with your friends here. On a side note, Planetside was some of the most fun that I have ever had online outside of the random insane dustbowl TFC. I remember all three factions fighting at one base for hours and it wasn't a zerg-fest. It was such a blast but I was really into EQ1 so spent what game time I had there when the people I played EQ1 with slowly dropped Planetside.
before when I first started playing I played this game all the time. After school, after work, it was almost addicting which is where the phrase evercrack came from. However Since the last year or so the game has bored me, so I play it for a month and then stop for like maybe a month or 2 and play some other game like ffxi or vanguard. Then when I want to get back to pveing here I'll buy another 30 day game card. Though I suppose by the time I finally get bored of raiding in this game i'll just quit all together because thats the only thing that can even hold my interest for a challenge any more.

Well till then i will playing Planetside (yes SoE owns my soul! =P) As a casual player in a casual guild I’m finding I don’t have anything really left to do. I don’t find grinding through the lore books quests for creatures or any of those find the pages for book quests very appealing. I went away for 2 months then came back and I found I wasn’t logging in after 3 days of being back. I think I’ll return once the next expansion is out and there’s some more worth while solo and small group content to do. This is the main reason I’ll be leaving for the time being I’ve done the return to Planetside a few times in the past. Its fun for the first few weeks then gets repetitive. It last even shorter if you’ve played BF2 as it shows just how slow paced and dated the mechanics are for a fps online game. The scale of planetside doesn’t translate in to a lot more fun than a 64 player game of BF2. I had some good times in the old days with Planetside but, for the best online fps experiences Battlefield 2 has offered a far better entertaining experience.

I hit the same kind of "Where is the fun" point as the OP a few months ago. What rescued it for me was rolling alts. Not one, but as many as I could. I got to see the game from other class' point of view, which makes you appreciate what they bring to the game too. Alts also allow you to re-experience quests with a bit more knowledge of what they are about and how to execute them, but having to use a completely different set of skills to achieve the quests helps make them "fresh" again. For example, having invis makes some quests easy, but not others. Then trying a class with Feign Death, or even a class with no such "get out" skills, just makes it more interesting. So I now concentrate on my alts and gaining AA XP through quest lines. I love it. Brag @ AB

Roll another toon, and experience the original game content and DoF, as imo its the most fun in the game.

I love my 55 Wizzy, its an absolutely blast to go the original raid content, as everyone has forgot how to do them, and [Removed for Content] its great doing Pris 1.0 and Pris 2.0.... such good fun tbh.

Add in you now have AA points, and it adds a whole new twist to things, superb fun! My main fun comes from my guild, we took a x2 last night and did a load of raid stuff, including the guild raid zones which are easy as anything, but just hilarious when you joke about and try using a rogue with offensive, or a sorcerer to tank... good fun tbh lol.

I still love the game even if after getting 2 toons to lvl 70 theres not much to do with them fighting wise (not much of a raider) but the game brings me back in like no other game tbh either just by looking round the world or starting a new toon.

Started playing EQ2 Feb06 and I ended up in the same frame of mind January this year, at the end of Feb I stopped playing and got rid of my account (Level 70 Necro and 50s Zerk), took a break, played some other games, no MMO's as EQ2 dominated my 2006 and I did not want that again this year.

I was back on EQ2 by April , couldnt get away, so I started new account, rolled a new toon of a totally different class and got out of Guild life so that I could casually play, now I play the odd weeknight and at Weekends, finding the game fresher than ever especially with the Zones in EoF that I never got round to playing with my old toons.

Roll an alt on a completely different server. Lower levels become REALLY fun when you have to work at it, quests are actually worthwhile, and you can't just log onto your main and buy a full set of legendary gear in a heartbeat. Not to mention you get to know a lot of new people.

I have to agree with those that state rolling alts. Sometimes I feel like playing my Swashy, sometimes my Mystic, sometimes I want PVP action.

Also, keep it challenging. Don't join a guild. Then you won't get a bunch of free stuff. You actually have to struggle to get by. Turn off your combat XP and just quest. I found that really takes the edge off the game. I feel like I am experiencing the whole game and not flying throgh the levels.

EQ2, vs. EQ1, is really easy to level. What took me months in 1 I can level to in hours now. All my toons have combat xp turned off now.

I don't think they delete your toons if you cancel your subscription either, but maybe someone can confirm that. I know they wouldn't want to deter anyone from coming back.

In general they avoid char wipes... only actual "wipe" I can think of was with server merges where they trashed all sub-lvl-5 chars with less than 1g on them, which overall doesn't really make much of a difference.

I'm pretty much in the same spot as the OP. I have 1 lvl70, 1 lvl68, and another lvl70 I deleted a couple months ago. I've played dozens of alts passed 30, a few passed 50. I can firmly say I've done almost all the content in the game... maybe not all, but definatly 75-80% of the stuff there is to do (just a rough guess). I don't even play my level 70 and 68 anymore because there's no real upgrades for my level 70 outside of EoF raiding, and the level 68 has such crappy gear and is so far behind in T7 quests and things I need to do I don't even want to try to catch up on all that crap (I leveled in SoS doing Claymore from 60-68... big mistake).

I'm not in a guild and won't be joining one unless I can get into a guild that raids EoF contested, which isn't gonna happen unless I reroll a class everyone wants but noone wants to play (like a bard). So, I've been dinking around on a new toon in my old love, FFXI online. I'm starting to feel my EQ2 days are coming to an end though for sure. I spend more time trolling these boards than I do playing the game. And when I do log in, it's usually on an alt, and I troll the boards while /lfg for 2 or 3 hours and then log out. But yea... EQ2 was fun while it lasted for me almost 3 years, but as with every MMO there come's a time when you cancel your sub. Sometimes you come back, sometimes you don't.

Even though i dont have a high lvl character i still have lots of fun. PvP is a blast (even if it is decided by programing most of the time). Grouping is a lot of fun. But hey if you want to go then well you can go. I did. But after 8 months of school and WoW (why i played that game, i shall never know) i came back. So dont delete your account. P.S if you like PvP and such go to http://www.darkfallonline.com/. It is a game entirely centered on pvp that will hopefully come out soon (the devs havent told us yet, they want it perfect when it comes out :roll Happy Gaming

Honestly, if your getting bored just retire from EQ2 or take an extended break. Every game has a certain lifespan with each individual. Don't feel bad if you decide to quit. I'll quit too if ever I get bored -- I don't play games to be bored. I have quit 10 or so different MMoRPG's in the past 6 years. WoW was my shortest stint -- less than a year before I was totally bored with 3 raid-equipped L60 characters (this was before the Burning Crusade).

However...

It's 80% about the player to decide how much fun they will have in any multiplayer online game. Get involved in more stuff with more other people and you will probably have more fun.

From your posts it sounds like you prefer the more FPS and "real-time-combat" style games.

I have been playing for about 18 months now and have a 62 Mystic/63 provisioner as my main. I always feel like there is SO MUCH TO DO - I am constantly outleveling content. I am in a very very tiny guild (struggling hard to get to level 30) and I pretty much only group with my boyfriend (who 2 boxes a paladin/conjurer combo). We level almost exclusively via quests. I am a total L&L addict, shiny addict, catalog quest, language quest addict. I've completed nearly 600 quests (including 22 HQs) and wish I had time for more!

About 2 months ago, I decided to start 2 boxing a warlock - she is now level 50 (level 33 tailor). My enjoyment in game has increased enormously - paladin/mystic/warlock/conjurer is a GREAT group. We took the warlock to EOF and have leveled her nearly exclusively in content that our mains missed originally - so it's all new to us. The mystic was a snooze to play (sorry, mystic lovers!) but the wards + warlock boom booms is so much fun, I love adding so much damage to our group. Now that we kill so much faster, we're having more fun in dungeons (currently exploring Permafrost, which we skipped the first time around).

My boyfriend and I were just discussing what we wanted to do next. We have about 5 quests left in Perma, we have a ton of quests in Lesser Fay (loooove the coin rewards!!) and we want to do some sentinel writs in KOS to level the guild. Mentoring the warlock has really slowed down our mains leveling, but it's a good thing, we're getting a chance to work through more content (which makes us happy).

I never get enough time to do everything I want to do - I need to camp transference directives in Nektolus for my warlock's language quest, I need to harvest roots for my boyfriend's sage so he can level through the 50s and make us some spells, I need to level my tailor, I could go to Wailing Caves and try to collect sparklies to sell (go go purple striped beetle), I need one more nightblood darkened blood, I need to finish my Nektolus catalog quests for both characters, I can obsessively price/re-price my stuff for sale on the broker, not to mention get cracking on Speak as a Dragon...

I am definitely having fun in game every time I log in!

i like to get my character drunk and run around, though i wouldnt recommend this if you are easily sickened by motion.

tradeskills are alright depending on how i am feeling any given day.

doing quests, as long as im not camping a dumb named mob(commander ralio) is fun.

ive got a swashbuckler with a braid that i love watching get whipped in the face when he rides a griffon anywhere.

have many alts to experience the game in many different forms.

i also jump alot when running around. its the little simple stuff in the game that makes me happy, i could care less about getting a master 1 or a fabled item to drop, or camping some named for hours on end for any kind of loot.

believe it or not harvesting is pretty fun sometimes. hearing that magical noise and seein those magical colored letters pop onto my screen is great.

hmm fun.... dont know; i guess if you have to come to a forum and ask people what is fun for them then its time to take a break, which is not such a bad thing.
