View Full Version : Is It Possible to Be Quest Oriented On a PVP Server?

Thinking about rolling a toon on one of the PvP servers, but would also like to maintain a healthy, quest-driven playstyle. So my question is --

Is this feasible? Or will I spend most of my time engaged in PvP, whether I want to or not, as soon as I step outside?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Sure it is... I have my Combat XP disabled and am going gaining XP through quests.

However, from the tone of your post you may be the kind of person who dislikes being killed (as it takes time/money). If you play PvP, you will die. You will die to the point you want to scream. So before you create your character make sure you are mentally ready, as its a jungle on a PvP server.

There is not fighting back if you are a new player. The established players have the gear/CA/AA/Spells that only someone with LOTS and LOTS of cash can provide. Even someone who is lower level then you will tear you a new one in a matter of seconds because of this. So, you just die and lose money and/or an item.

If this sounds fun to you... Welcome to EQ2 PvP. If not, I'd stay away from EQ2 PvP.

Yes it is possible but now you will be looking over your shoulder everytime you engage a mob. As the previous poster mentioned you will die, repeatedly. If you can't stand the thought of waiting around until you find a few other players to quest with, then just be prepared to get ganked. Maybe roll a scout so you at least have track...

On the other hand, I have leveled a toon to lvl 17 on just quest xp alone, and that was locking at lvl 10 and always carrying debt on top of that...

Thats all I do is quest......so yea its possible , just can't let the bastages get ya down. Its that simple. You die, just gather yourself together and go back to the quest and keep doin it.

They always get bored, eventually.

Dont come to a pvp server is you want to quest. The way you described pvp as in "whether I want to or not" shows that youll justg end up being one of the whiners that are ruining pvp eventually. /wave

PVP is 100% whether you want it or not. So while you are very welcome on Venekor, don't come to any pvp server thinking you will pick and choose when you can pvp, not gonna happen. You will be questing, as i was earlier on my baby defiler, and some guy higher and better than you will come and kill you when those mob's have you at half health already.

Expect that, adapt to that, thats the way it is.

ok i've played PvP here and played on PvP on EQ1 for 4 years, id like to give you my view on PvP. 1. NO ONE and i mean NO ONE except your guildies are your friends. 2. Everyone is a huge jerk including you if you want to survive (AFK= A Free Kill, if the enemy is there kill them they are your enemy not your friend) 3. Don't whine no one wants to hear it and no one cares. So you died? Shut up, brush yourself off, and continue on your day. 4. You can quest but you sure as hell aren't getting any help unless theres "a point*" to it (*in the PvP world a point would be phat l00tz lawl or lots of XP ) 5. No one cares about Lore, what is going on on the blue servers, funny in game easter eggs, or anything else EXCEPT PvP and things that will make them better at it (main reason i started EQ2 on a blue server =P). 6. PvPers do raid and group...if it will get them XP or good PvP gear that is, not to complete a "Stupid Quest" there ya go thats pretty much a PvP server in a nutshell. Except for very few exceptions, people are all like this on a PvP servers. Its definitely a different experience, and it can definitely be fun for some people.

Just had to throw in my two cents as well! You CAN be a quester who likes to PvP sometimes. I play on the server Vox, the population is alot lower there than the other servers, and there are lots of questers and harvesters. You will still have to look over your shoulder, but today for example I was able to quest for over 2 hours straight without getting killed once. Just be prepared that there will be fights, and you will get killed, alot-especially in the beginning. tips: Your best weapons are your allies. Don't trust anyone who has their alts blocked, they could be hiding a spy in the opposite alignment. Find a good guild, or ask in chat for tips and hints, there are lots of friendly people on Vox, and contrary to popular opinion, the fact is that there are alot of people in treasured gear, adept 1's, and mastercrafted. One of my toons is twinked, but I did not buy plat, and with a little harvesting and patience it's fairly easy to twink your toon out a little. So come on over and join in the fight! It makes your heart pound, it makes you want to throw your keyboard, it makes you want to scream for joy, it's....well, come check it out!!

If you want to experience both PvP and PvE aspects of the game then come play on Vox. I don't think questing is really possible on the other red servers. Between my 5 charactors on Vox I have completed over 1000 quests.
