My current pc has:

Athlon 64 3000+ overclocked to 2500mhz

(1) geforce 7800GT 256MB

2 gigs of of some Gskill PC4000 ram

4 raptors in raid-0

I have a couple hundred dollars to upgarde. For this game alone, would I be better off getting:

an Athlon 64 4000+, which has 512k more cache and will more than likely run a few hundred mhz faster than my current one.

Or get another 7800GT video card for some dual video card action?

Or another 2 gigs of ram?

Hard drive set up is plenty fast as it is, and I don't think dual core cpu will help much since I don't multi task too much. Or will it? Usually only have this game running and anti virus. Occasionally a webpage open or ACT parser.

My main objective with the upgrade is to help with lag, and make load times even faster. I'm not too overly concerned with running at highest resolution and highest quality. It runs decent on high quality (not max) when I'm grouping or soloing. Then when I raid, I turn it down to best performance any way. Half the time I load into zones pretty quick, then sometimes not. and when I have to restart the game it usually takes longer for me to get back in compared to others (even though I load into zones faster than them)

I'd wait.. and be patient.

There's alot of things about to hit the market, and your rig is just fine the way it is. Save your money for a true upgrade.

I agree with the previous post, but if you really are interested in upgrading, my suggestion would be to upgrade the cpu.

Good luck!

Slowdethh

AB

I as well would also wait. Your system is currently a decent system and is better than mine (and I just upgraded.. hehe.) You could also send the money to me so I can upgrade... so yea I would recommend that!

I'd also suggest waiting. But then I'd also disregard my own suggestion and upgrade the processor and RAM.

What version are you running, XP or XP64? If it's just XP, a RAM upgrade would be wasted. NewEgg and SlickDeals.net run ads on processors all the time, and you can (assuming it's a socket 939) get it for around $60 before tax & shipping.

I have windows xp.

Ya, the athlon 4000+ has 512k more cache and based on the overclockers forums I visit, I'm guessing I could get another 4-500 more mhz, bringing the total to about 3000mhz, and it is only 60 dollars right now. I think I'll go ahead and get that and maybe a couple better fans and wait before I spend any more.

Thanks for the quick responses. But, isn't there ALWAYS something much better just around the corner?

I have played around alot with the page file, on seperate drives, adjusting the min/max, etc. I've tried turning it off (which it really never does anyway). I've ran time trials loading xp and games and running benchmarks, etc. Pretty much found that the by tweaking the hell out of the page file only makes very minor changes, so I leave it at 1500/1500. I've also been thinking about getting one of those gigabyte I-Ram's since I have alot of older DDR ram laying around, and putting the swap file/page file/virtual memory/whateveryouwannacallit on that. But they are getting harder to find and the price is actually going back up. Been hoping a newer version would come out that holds more than the 4 gigs or whatever and install the whole gam into ram. Now that would be somethin.

Yes there's always something better around the corner but sometimes it's 5% better and sometimes it's 20% better. Seems like now is one of the 20% times. If you really need to upgrade I'd do the proc since 7800 gts are pretty scarce these days. I used to use one and when I wanted to get a second for sli I noticed that it was more expensive than a 7900gt and would only offer better performance at resolutions that my monitor is incapable of displaying I waffled a few months and bought an 8800 gts for a bit more than the 7800 gt was selling for. Now that was an upgrade!
