Another issue where plate tanks are preferred are the passive spells fighters get. I currently have such buffs as thorncoat and the buff from warden (can´t remember the name at the moment) which procs a heal in mind. Too get hit more often then us avoidance "tanks" means automatically more damage or healing. I am sure you can come up with more examples from buffs that plate wearers benefit more than us leather wearers.
