What are everyone's thoughts on possibly a new option to change your race after it's created? I think it would be a cool addition, but put a limit on it, or a fee. Thoughts?

Sorry but I don't think this would be a good idea. It's a role playing game, meaning that if you don't feel good at playing a race, you should just change your char, I mean by deleting it, and creating THE one you'll love through all your game life <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> But, suddenly changing your race, that doesn't make sence to me...

I dont see how it could be explained away really... transmogrification device I suppose... but its a pretty silly idea when theres nothing stopping you from making the race you want later on... What Id like to have is the ability to make a mouse and play her in the good side without having to go through the annoying betrayal quest...

I would love to see this option.  Even if its a pay for service I would pay to get my character changed to a diffrent rance.

<p>I do not think race changing is a good idea.  Each race has its own rich history, its own pride.  To allow someone to suddenly 'join the club', without the chance of being born within that culture would cause a lot of strife in the Lore.  The already in game solution is complete bone shard collections and keep illusions available at all times.</p><p>But that is never good enough for some.  If they were to give in and implement this, I say that those who opt to change their race be forced to exile and stay that way until they can gain enough faction with their new chosen 'race' to be welcome in society.  Some, like the Teir'Dal and Koada'Dal would never allow an imposter among them for all their pride and that would have to be a penalty you would be willing to pay to change who you are.</p><p>You are an outcast of both the racial society you came from and the racial society you long to belong to now.  Some things have a price and this one's price should be high.</p>

<p>IT is not just development decision, Technically (Database wise) impossible...</p>

Wow, we didn't have a "want race respec" / "let me change my race" threat for a week now. I'm glade you started a new one. And no, it's not needed.

I'm gonna use a quote from the Dev Chat here, this is in the context of Character Classes but it basically also applies to the race change: <i>"<span style="color: #000000"><b>[Kirstie]</b> We have already implemented that feature, on the Character Select screen click on “Create New Character”"</span></i>

<p>I dont think this should ever be allowed, for any reason.</p>

No no no race change makes no sense at all.  In real life do you say, well being human sucks im gonna be a bear *poof* bear! its a silly idea i mean i just...i have so many reasons its a bad idea i cant get them all out.

<p>No way, this is completely overstepping the boundaries in game changes.</p><p> Ya know, tradeskilling changes are one thing, but to completely change the race of a character is wacky.  Racial abilities, base stats, etc...   Good lord it would through Norrath out of line, we'd hit the sun, and burn miserably <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Not to mention that changing race would also be a "free" Betrayal from one side to the other.  If you go from Qeynosian Wood Elf to Troll, are you suddenly a Troll living in Qeynos? So.... no, no race respec.

If you want to keep in some sort of lore, just make the conversion totally illusionary.  Your race, aka your illusion change and it becomes perminate, you keep your languages, and your racial traits. I think a full fix for something like this would be to allow users to keep their illusions on mounts, and allow for customization of the illusionary races.  Hell I would settle for just being able to swap from a female character to a male.

Most of my characters are mice. I have done the freeport to qeynos betrayal so many times that it's basically a service such as mentoring lol. I seriously doubt race changing is impossible to implement but i don't think it's a good idea. As state by others, each race has it's own background, and just having someone join in without knowing it kinda throws role play out the window. However it would be nice if races weren't restricted to alignment (good/evil) and could choose their own path at creation. For example You may be a ratonga but do you consider yourself good or evil? Then you get to pick from the list of cities for the alignment YOU chose not the game.
