View Full Version : Joint Ownership of a House - Will this happen, EVER?

I pay half the rent in the house my husband and I own, yet I'm restricted to what I can do in it. I can't use my 50% display case reduction that I got for my reward. I can't interact with my pets. I can't pick up items into my inventory and move them to another room. I have to move right then and there and use the limited vision in doing so. Can't have as many vault spaces.

It's getting frustrating. I put half the status crap in there, I pay half the rent, why can't I get co-ownership?

I would be very interested in that as a possibility.

3 toons share a place but only 1 can feed the pets or do anything.

Trustees being able to take over ownership would be a nice option.

Of course if you have trustees that are not on your account that could be a bit more tricky.

It would be really good if the owner is a toon you have decided you don't want anymore.

Sharing as you say would be best

Maybe just giving trustees more leeway would be an easier technical change

I have another post in this area about housing but you raise some really good points.

It is time for housing in general to get a thorough amount of developmental love.

Agreed. I room with another since neither of us can afford the nicer, bigger homes on our own (like in real life!) so some type of co-lease where you both are owners would be nice. I recall someone said about the issue with Lore items in there but that's already happening anway (big example, the L&L books since you can end up with 2 at some point).

I'd really like to see support for this.

They should add In game marriage, then add a feature only the man and wife can do in the house... alone ... like cooking!

I agree - I'd love to see a joint ownership feature in the game. It would lead nicely right into being able to have guild halls. At the very least, a guild could set up a house where everyone in the guild could interact with everything.

It's one of the wish list things I posted in the Norrathian Homeshow forum waaaaaaaaaaay down at the bottom of these boards a few weeks back. I have alts sharing housing in Kelethin and Neriak and would LOVE to be able to craft in my own home with all of them able to share the same house vault. My other one was to be able to sell your house to someone, lock, stock, and barrel DIRECTLY for whatever selling price you wish to. Which of course would be great if you've changed your main and only want to sell from them or maybe you are leaving the game but don't want to see your house go to waste so you want to gift it to a friend. Whatever reason.
This is all nice and good, but what happens when the marriage, the roommate-ship, the relationship breaks up? I'm betting SOE doesn't want to deal with the headaches. Someone made some joking remarks about divorce and a new tradeskill, lawyer, but there's a big grain of truth in that. What happens when the two buddies that decided to share a house get mad at each other and break up the friendship? And the one takes all the stuff (he's the owner of the house, he can do that, mostly). Now what? SOE has to deal with the petition. Its a wonderful idea when things are going well, but the fact is, we've all seen breakups, in game and out, its rarely pretty. You want to add a whole other dimension to this!

>>>I can't use my 50% display case reduction that I got for my reward.<<<

If you are not on the same account as the owner, you should be able to. If you are on the same account, then only one of you can sell at once. What I would like to see would be an option for people to select whether they have one selling character or instead to have one selling house. If you go with the "selling house" option, it would allow any of your alts to place their vendor boxes into the broker slots in the house. This way, if you had a 5-slot house, one character could use 3 of the slots and 2 of your other characters could you one each; or 5 characters could use one each and sell simultaneously.

>>>I can't interact with my pets.<<<

I can't think of any reason why trustees should not be able to interact with pets. Friends should be able to as well.

>>>I can't pick up items into my inventory and move them to another room. <<<

You should be able to if they are not no-trade. No-trade means you can't pick it up and allowing this would lead to exploits.

>>> Can't have as many vault spaces.<<<

You could buy a big house for your character and just not pay rent on it -- if you don't need to enter your house, you don't need to pay rent. You should be able to access the vault slots from your shared house. You would get more vendor slots as well, although the same-account problems would still exist

Joint ownership would be great, for the reasons given previously. A guild house where house rights are linked to guild rank would be good too.

All of my alts are Trustees on my houses and no one but the house owner can interact with my pets; even if they are the ones who placed the pet there to begin with. Unless you are saying you don't understand why they can't and think they should, to which I agree with you. erin, Not everyone wanting this want it because of some relationship they have with another toon (whether RL or IG). I want this for my account and my account only and I would wager that there are more people in my boat than the relationship boat. I want my alts to co-own my houses so that they get access to the broker crates and house vault (putting stuff in and taking it out), pet interaction, etc. And why not? I can only sell from a single char at any given time so what sense is there to restricting my alts from having co-ownership status for my housing?

Later, when the framework is in place, allow characters from other accounts. I share my main's house with alts on the same account and my gf on a different account.
