View Full Version : Cannot PvP While Mentoring?

Exactly, how does mentoring work on PvP servers? Today, I was mentoring a level 18 friend, when 2 level 19 Freeps start to attack him. I couldn't do anything but watch him die. Then, they turned and starting attacking me. They were doing damage, but I couldn't fight back. I just stood there and died helplessly. What the heck is going on? Am I doing something wrong? Why can't I fight back? What are the rules for mentoring on PvP servers?

When you mentor, you are not able to engage anyone in PvP.

When you mentor, you are not able to disband from the group once pvp has started. (not positive 100% on this one, some may use the macro to quickly leave if friend has not engaged yet).

When you mentor, you are not able to engage anyone in PvP.

hmm...most important rule listed twice.

So if you are going to mentor, you need to know that unless it is an instance or dungeon where not many pvpers will find you...you may die.

I have seen some type of loophole where mentored players somehow where about unmentor while I was fighting them. I of course I died every time this happened and even lost fame.

I think a lot of the "problems" that are occuring would be fixed if the Dev's were to fix mentoring so that you could compete at the mentored level without being uber. This would allow mentoring down to play with friends, get nameds, run quests you missed, etc., without needing to level-lock just to compete in PvP.

The new PvP players complain about level locked twinks ganking them, but reality is that people are unable to level up for fear of outleveling the critical mass of PvP activity on the server. If a person could level up to level 70 at their own pace and mentor down and still PvP effectively (without being so uber that it would incentivize exploiting mentoring like what happened at PvP server-launch), then less people would care about PvP'ing at the lower levels. They could freely cruise the zones they wanted to be in, and PvP wherever they were at simply by mentoring down to the zone itself (without needing to mentor down to a specific player within the zone). Then, anyone above the level of the zone would be unable to engage in PvP (like it is now while mentored). This would encourage people to mentor down to the level of the zone unless they were just passing through. It would mean that more people would level up and the critical mass of the server population wouldn't be forced down to the lowest common denominator of T2 and T3. When the server load was light, people could cruise around the zones until they found PvP action without having to log onto 6 different toons (a separate twink for each tier T2 through T7). It also would encourage people to fully develop 6 different characters all capable of PvP'ing in any tier rather than being limited to one per tier.

yeah you can see that something is broken while mentoring while doing this : while mentored, attack an even con heroic mob. you´ll likely be able to solo it...

People have macros that split the group up and rejoin it for those moments. when they see you starting to move in, the group will split and rejoin in a matter of 1-2 seconds, and everyone will be unmentored in that time.

Kinda hard to use them since I solo most of the time. but yeah, I knwo a fwe more, and I've gladly shared them earlier. Such as the /raidinvite exploit to get invites even when IN pvp combat. Not sure if its fixed now, but it ought to be. I prefer for everyone to know the cheap tricks rather than just the lame [Removed for Content] that use them. Easier to fight them then.

I can assure you that Ulvhamne doesn't use that or any other exploits ... it's not his style (nor mine). He does have technical expertise though, so he tends to find them out and report them, or when he sees something odd happening, he investigates it then figures it out and reports it. As a PvP'er, he's extremely good, and he doesn't need to use exploits to prove it.
