View Full Version : The Warrior AA 'choices'...

I came back from a long break, before AAs were introduced, to my level 47 berserker. When I rolled up my berserker both warriors had two unique abilities that set them apart from the knights: dualwield and the ability to use tower shields. Looking at the AA options and reading on the boards it's pretty apparent that the stamina/buckler line is pretty much mandatory. So now these two things that really set us apart from the knights are gone, sure you can still use them but you're underperforming and you know it...

I made 10 lvls and over 50 AAs in a week or so, he performs just fine, that's not the point. But I like a bit of variety, I like throwing out another weapon setup once in a while but I can't, even just changing the type of 1-hander that I have to use with my buckler is a no-no without running to a mage and paying a lot of cash to respec. At first I was pretty happy that you had to make choices in the EQ2 AA system, were you couldn't just get every ability like in EQ1 but it's starting to feel very, very restrictive, especially since one line (sta) is so predominant and two (agi and wis) are not up to par.

Is nobody else annoyed by this? Were there no protests when this got introduced? How on earth did this happen?

Well, I'm sure this will be commented on by several people... but here is my humble opinion: First of all my Main is a Necro. Has been for several years now. My secondary is my Zerk. I chose him after attempting (valiantly attempting I might add) several other classes. I can see your frustration. I long ago gathered the idea that EQ2 was no longer warranting a 'uniqueness' between it's classes. This became apparent when pretty much every other class out there gets to summon some form of pet, or swarm pets, or crap like that. Yes... my main is a Necro, and I was, for the longest time, under the impression that only a 'Summoner' should be able to summon. Plain and simple. I mean c'mon... you don't see a Wizzy trying to tank... (although I'm sure some would disagree). I know that some people will not see my point regarding the pets as clearly, or simply, as I do, but the fact still remains. So, regarding your warrior AA dilemma... I do believe there should be a bit more difference between the warrior classes, but then again you could say the same for the bards, and scouts... I'm not certain about the healers/wardens/clerics because I never play a 'healing' class. But it basically boils down to what can be done to try and keep balance between the classes. Otherwise you would end up with a server full of 1 healer type, 1 dps type, and 1 tank type. No matter how you look at it... that would just be uberBoring. There is also the whole 'FOTM' issue which EVERY online game will go through. Especially an RPG style game. I haven't played one yet that hasn't shifted with the winds accordingly. And this whole FOTM dilemma also pretty much warrants what type of configuration a class will end up with. Sure you can Not use the Buckler line, but how effective would you really be? I honestly don't know. Granted I'm still leveling my Zerk, but from what I've seen in the past, all classes go through this sort of stage. And I don't know a Zerk that doesn't run with the Buckler line... unless they are just experimenting or haven't gotten the AA yet. But it's pretty much the same with most classes. Some of our AAs are outstanding, while others are just waaaaay out in left field. I know that a Zerk can be configured to tank quite efficiently, but when you have a Guard spec'd for tanking... it's almost certain you will be passed up for him each time. To me, and this is ONLY based on fantasy lore and the imagery I grew up with, a Zerk is just that. A Berserker! They go crazy when in battle. Hit them and they go even crazier. They are battle fanatics. They are the ones who instigate the battle initially and start cutting down the mobs as they swarm into the fray. Bloodlust. Looking for the 1 other warrior in the world who can give them a 'beautiful death'... or to kill as many things in their path as possible. A Zerk. While I could comment on how kewl it would be to see a Zerk configured a certain way, it wouldn't make much difference in the long run. I just let go and see what SoE has to offer me and take it at face value. Sure we all have our quirks about the game that will annoy the hell out of us (*cough* pet follow issues *cough*) but what can we do? Quit? That's never a solution nor is it fun. I know that SoE has a much better insight for the game than ANY player will EVER have or ever THINK they have. It would be nice to see the AA restructured to some degree, but then again who knows if it will help or not. You also have to remember that the classes are going to be based on the game content as well. And I'm sure the Dev's have plenty of open-minded ideas about how to fix/config/re-build/design whatever in the future... (*cough* expect the pet follow issue *cough*) There is an update coming with the next xpac, and I believe there are going to be some AA changes in it, but I'm not certain that there will be any 'Major' reconstruction to AA lines to differentiate between classes. You can check out the DEV forums here on this same site and read up a bit about the upcoming info... however there is never enough 'info' released to the public IMHO. Yes yes.. I know you cannot release every little nitty gritty detail before launch, but you cannot deny that even after an update has launched there is usually quite a bit that was NOT mentioned that actually has a significant impact... Like the stupid pet bug. (Nope. I'm never letting that one go. It's almost a class breaker) I'd like to see zerks be able to be just as efficient with a 2h axe, or duel wielding hammers or whatever, but unfortunately it isn't that way... for now. I don't know why we have the ability to duel wield if it isn't really an effective style in the first place. Other than the image of an old Diablo][ barbarian wielding 2 big 'ol collosus blades, I can't see the need for a duel wielding zerk. Yes it would be fun, but they why not just have a scout class? .. alas I'm just rambling now. Sorry to derail the topic.

Well, like I said, I just got back from a long break and I was unaware that they are being reworked. I was under the impression that they had just been redone.
