Ok this is my story. I have a really annoying sound issue that I cannot seem to resolve. I am a pretty technically savvy person, (work in IT with hardware so have a decent understand of whats going on.) I log into the game and all is well my sound is fine. I do some quests and what not and my sound quality over time will degress. The music starts to skip and all of the voiceovers will start to start to almost sound as if they are skipping. I have no idea what os going on as these are the steps I have already taken to resolve this issue. -Updated Drivers -Turned hardware acceleration up, down, and all over. -Turned off some BIOS features that makes it so the HDD caches some certain info to increase PC performance. -Checked to make sure that no other resources are using my sound channel resource (IRQ's and such, although XP is supposed to not have issues with this) -Defragged (many times) -Several DXdiags and found no sound 1 and sound 2 tabs. -This is onboard sound -Sound is not emulated. This is the only game this happens on. To my understanding all of the sound files are local. Which means this could be an issue with the way my computer is getting these files. I will try a reload of windows and a fresh install of EQ2. (really dont want to as I have no image and that would be really hard to reload everything) If anyone can help me I would be greatly appreciative. I am almost at the point of turning sound off completely. That really limits emersion factor though. Also will try a new sound card but this is a pretty decent onboard sound setup though, Might also want to mention if I restart the computer the issue will be fixed but will eventually degress again. SATA harddrive so I dont think it is a access issue with speed.

If you post some info like they request on the sticky, the SoE techs are generally pretty helpful! They helped me on some sound issues after I posted my info.

Ok so I went in and this MIGHT be fixed. Tested it last night and it seemed ok although I was only able to be on for like 1 hour or so. For anyone else who has this issue I am going to post the steps I did to make this work again: (Disclaimer: I would nto try this unless you are somewhat confident with computers, if done incorrectly this could require a a reload of windows.) 1)Right Click My Computer, Select Manage. 2)Opens Management Console. 3)Select Device Manager. 4)Click on the + next to Computer (Top Icon under computer name) 5)Reveals "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface PC" 6)Right click that, select properties. 7)Go into "Driver" tab Click "Update Driver" 9)NEXT 10)Display a list of known drivers for the device 11)NEXT 12)Click "Show all hardware of this device class" 13)Under (Standard Computers), select "Standard PC" 14)NEXT, NEXT, etc... 15)Reboot and pray. Hopefully all will be well when you reboot. A number of things will be different. One will be that some advanced power management things DO NOT WORK. Particularly, its likely that if you select "shutdown" from the start menu, it will just shut the OS down, and you will be left with the old message "its now safe to turn your computer off" instead of the actual power going off, i.e. you will loose the ability to power down using software and will have to press the power off button on your case. You may also get IRQ conflicts because you will have lost advanced IRQ management and will instead have to rely on the BIOS trying to do the best it can to make everything work. Try to set "Plug and Play OS installed" to NO in your BIOS if you have such a setting. You might also want to run a "Reset ESCD Data" as well first time round.

I did not but I was told that if I did this my dual core may not work properly. You know where I can get that?

I am at work now so I am not sure if this is true yet. I will go home and check to see if my system is recognizing my multiple cores.

Yea so it did only see one core and cannot figure out for the life of me how to get this working again. I switched it back from Standard PC to ACPI and it's sharing the same IRQ again. I wonder if I can disbable that SATA controller without issue? Anyone have any ideas?

Yes I do have Sata drives and it turns out the one it is conflicting with is obviously the one my hard drive is plugged into. I am going to take the easy way out and just get a new sound card. I know with XP and the virtual IRQ's that this should not be an issue but I am almost 100% sure it is. Thanks for the help I really appreciate the responses.
