While combat is certainly enjoyable in EQ2, there are some aspects that need a little love, IMO.

First, why are there no sounds when a majority of strikes land in melee combat? Most of the time, and it's especially apparent while dual-wielding, strikes don't make a sound when they land. The weapon(s) breezing through the air is always heard, but not the actual blows. It's a bit disconcerting to constantly hear your weapons whooshing through the air but not actually landing, even though they're doing damage. The few sounds that are there are nice - I like the metallic chinks and what not as a sword strikes heavy armor. However, they don't trigger nearly enough. I want to *feel* my blows striking an enemy, I want some punch (no pun intended). Sound goes a long way, arguably more so than visual content, in making art and entertainment immersive and attractive.

Second, combat animations need to be quickened just a bit. Many are just a little too slow, especially when wielding a sword + board or a two-hander. Consequently, melee combat feels like it's being played in semi-slow motion, very much like the combat in City of Heroes. It's not huge, it's pretty marginal - we're only talking 15-20% or so - but it's there and it's noticeable. Dual-wielding is fine for the most part, but weapon + board and two-handers need to be sped up. Again, I want to feel my blows striking an enemy. I want my Kerra Paladin to attack like he truely has a divine purpose and not half-heartedly swing his sword like he's afraid of wounding his opponent.
