For the purposes of this discussion, lets leave gear at the door... So figuring race, class, spells, and AA's, what's the fastest?

Don't think race matters but I think I met a dirge once that had 86% run speed thru some AAs or something

I think both Fae and Arasai have a racial tradition that gives +5% in-combat run speed, which should work out-of-combat as well.

The answer on this one is going to vary depending on whether you want to include temporary movement enhancements (sprint, pact of the cheetah, etc.).

As a general answer, I think you want a Kerra or Fae Ranger. Kerra and Fae both get a chance at enhancing movement speed (by 5% if memory serves) fairly early. (I think it's level 14, but I don't remember exactly.) There are probably other races that get a movement bonus, but I know from experience that Kerra and Fae do.

If you max AA in sprint and pathfinding, your Fae/Kerra ranger will have a 51% speed bonus WITHOUT gear and WITHOUT sprinting. With sprint on, I think your bonus shoots up to 78%--and sprint lasts longer than usual if you have max AA in the category.

I've *heard* that monks can be very impressive with maxed sprint and something else on their tree. They have to sprint to compete with rangers, but their power consumption is so low that with the right drink/totem, they can just reactivate sprint every 3 minutes without ever slowing down.

My own choice for in-game speed is a fury with max AA in peerless predator and pact of the cheetah. My Fae fury (default 40% bonus) isn't as fast as my Fae ranger (default 51% bonus), but when she sprints, she moves at an 80% bonus, and when she uses PoC, she moves at a 100% bonus. The icing on the cake for me is that moving around isn't just about speed. The ability of furies to port means that my fury can haul a$$ from one end of Norrath to the other far more effectively than any other character I know of.

I'm sure others know even more ways to enhance their movement, and I'm just as interested as the OP in finding out about them.

I'm pretty sure anything that adds to in-combat speed, by default, works out of combat. The "in-combat" just means "it even works in combat while other speed effects are canceled." You can choose it at level 10.

A fae warden, with jboots, and properly specced AA's, can run at a sustained 60%. (knock of 10% if you don't want the boots considered). While others can get a very nice temporary boost, (fury, PoC), I think the higher sustained rate of wardens make up for that.

I've always thought that bards had the best speed boosts in the game?

Bards with AA's have 46% run speed in/out of combat and as a fae will have 51%. Add Jboots to that and you can run around at 61%.

btw - It is so wrong that rangers can now match the bard's speed. That was a unique trait for bards until that recent change.

My warden is at 55%

AA's get your sow to 45% for 45 minuttes and it stacks with Journeyman boots

so 55% . My Zerk is on the lvl 60 horse but thats only 50% so mny warden on autofollow often have a very close look at the rear end of my zerks horsey heh

Yours

Brorim

I was thinking out of combat speed mainly when starting this thread. But I left the question open ended to see what people came up with. From an OOC perspective, it seems like a Fae Ranger is the fastest (51%) -- I'm not interested in gear adds, just race, class, spells and AA's. I guess second would be a Fae Warden (50%). I've read that Kerra get a 5% run speed bonus but I have my doubts. Its certainly not in their level 8 racial tradition list, like in the Fae.

I have a kerra monk and you can be assured that it uses that trait. With AA spec for a monk they can Sprint that lasts the full duration of sprint. And the speed is about 75%+ or more. Sprint is 40% +25% from eof aa and +5% from the kos aa +5% from trait =75% in combat run speed. But its while sprinting. Only 10% without sprint. But you get the full duration of sprint as it costs like 50% less pr and sprint is up pretty often.

Currently my Fury has 35% from EoF AA tree. When I mentor for some reason it jumps to 63%. Now add 10% from KoS AA Tree and 40% from the drog swill. It is possible for me to achieve 100% in and out of combat when mentored and 85% when unmentored.

However, it doesn't seem to stack with my Kerra bard's run buff. Hmm.

Not sure if it was noted but the 5% racial speed trait does NOT stack with jboots, fyi.

My ranger runs at 56% with jboots and pathfinding, dont have max AAs in runspeed so I think it's possible to get 60+% after the in-combat / out of combat run speed changes coming in GU36.(those might only be for PvP server though)

Okay, when did Kerra get a racial trait that gives a 5% run bonus? That must be new because I never saw that when I played a Kerra. And when did they give Rangers a movement bonus to match bards? Not that either of those seem at all inappropriate for the race or class, I just don't see them mentioned in a patch note.
