View Full Version : Is PVP gear that good?

Ok, I've been playing on Venekor for almost a year now. Sort of a casual player, PVE with PVP along the way. I love PVP but I am confused as to how a group of two can roll up on a full group and annihilate us in a matter of seconds. Now imagine that scenario or one like it happening over and over. My gear is pretty good, mostly legendary and fabled but no PVP gear. I also understand some people just play better than I do but how is it that myself and even my friend who is an assassin with decapitate cant even do the minimum damage to opposing players. Is it the gear? That is my only guess, please let me know if it is that sooper-uber so I can take time to go and get me some. And please, I'm asking nicely with no inference to who sucks and who doesn't....serious answers please. Or wait, did I just open myself up to a can of verbal whoop-[Removed for Content] lol?

It was probably a combination of PvP gear, master spells, level locked AA's, class, and skill. But if you are going strictly by the damage you did to them then it was most likely the PvP gear. When you realise how good the PvP stuff is you will understand why players level lock for ages to get it.

I guess, one example specifically sticks out in my mind. My friend who is a lvl 70 assassin, ran up on a green (lvl 63 i think) monk and barely beat him and when he checked the combat log it never said how much his decapitate did only that it did piercing damage or something like that. Another good example is my bro-in-law has a 67 necro and tried to lifeburn someone and it did like 100 pts of damage. Very frustrating, like I said maybe I should get me some. My problem is Im a zerker and i SUCK at PVP hehe. So I guess Im SOL. Ive heard about other armor sets like EOF or relic, should I shoot for those instead? Thanks for the response btw

Relic is almost as good as the PvP gear and EoF fabled is the best stuff in the game but you will have to go on 4x raids to get it. I started re-rolling twinks when my main hit level 48 because I realized I could not compete with pvp geared players. Maybe someday I will shoot for relics or better but for now faction grinding at low levels to get PvP gear is the better option. I would suggest you get started on that twink right away before level locking gets nerfed at the end of month.
It depends on the class. Some classes would probably much rather have a couple eof pve pieces (guard, templar, dirge for the 3 piece bonus), whereas for some dps classes like swash, the pvp gear blows away the pve gear.

They're stopping level locking? Dang, I kinda like that idea. I was level locking a little warden till about 25, in part for faction and the other for AAs. I still quest with him, PVP along the way, but oh well. If I go exile is their stuff better than Q or Freep PVP gear? If so I'm down like a clown for that. So do you get triple stats and super resists on the PVP gear in general? I hate to ask such noobish questions and I appreciate all the answers you guys are giving me. Definitely food for thought...

Relic doesn't hold a candle to EoF pvp gear, so whoever made that claim needs to go look at it and rethink what you said. EoF Raid gear is slightly better than EoF pvp gear for some classes, and slightly worse for others, and it really all depends on what you like to do.

Ah, so unlike when you are in Qeynos or Freeport, exiles don't have class specfic supply guys for pvp gear? I didn' t know that. I do pick up raids and get the occasional "thanks for coming" bone thrown my way (which I REALLLY appreciate btw), but mostly it's the instances like archadecism (did i spell that right) where I get my gear, or the broker. Ok, so if I want "PVP" gear I would have to get it before exiling, if thats what I decided to do then? Thanks again for all the posts. I've almost got it figured out hehe.

Oh and the EOF pvp gear comes from lvl 60 tokens sold to the guy (don't know where) then right? Or so I was told.

Each piece requires some sort of citizenship. If you are wearing it when you exile, it will immediately go into your bags and you will not be able to reequip it.

So what about lower tier exiles, wearing mastercrafted/raiding gear then? You guys have been great with the info...keep it coming! Thanks!

At least the exile ones anyway....
ive been in plenty of groups where we have 1 strong group that kills a x2 raid of full 70s when were all 70..as a scout if i see a mage or a weak healer running around in a full group and they are falling behind a group I can easily take advantage of the entire situtation and kill a few people with one or two people vs a full group. The people who killed you were probably good ppvers who know there [I cannot control my vocabulary] and are organized etc.

Oh definitely, skill has a LOT to do with it, but my original concern was stuff like my bro-in-law only hitting for like a 100 pts of damage with life burn during a PVP encounter, but yet he hits a mob for like 8K or more, that was my question about the gear. Trying to sort out some issues I'm just not familiar with and learn more about the game. Yeah, I always liked getting the straggler too LOL, always confuses a group and makes for mass mayhem....makes for lots of fun.

well Lifeburn is rather bad in pvp because of the mechanics of it and because resists in pvp hamper the affect of it a lot. As for EoF pvp gear, the really good thing about it is that every piece has a worthwhile bonus, along with there being a set bonus.
